RE: Request for Alternate Design -- Air Admittance Valve @ 506 6th Avenue South
Dear Keith,
The City is in receipt of your request for alternate design (reference building permit #2006-0619) for
installation of an air admittance valves for three fixtures in this residence.
The City Building Inspector has already discussed conventional venting code requirements and options
on the kitchen loop vent sink. Based on our field knowledge that conventional venting can be provided
for all three fixtures, the current request for use of air admittance valves is denied as it is the City's
contention that conventional venting can be provided at minimal disruption to the joists, and structural
members, etc. while also maintaining minimum slope.
If you wish to supplement this submittal and request reconsideration, we suggest you submit
documentation from the licensed plumber who performed the installation, including a diagram of the
loop vent with explanation as to which portion does not meet code, and detailed structural
information/details from the structural engineer of record to support your claims.
Sincerely,
Jeannine L. Graf
