Schools, the Edmonds School District has a need for one portable classroom at Sherwood Elementary School to support capacity needs related to a state mandated reduction in class sizes (student / teacher ratio), Sherwood Elementary's current student population is 450. The design capacity of the Sherwood Elementary is 380 with 20 built classrooms, all of which are occupied. The current student teacher ratio at the lower grade levels is approximately 25 students to I teacher, Next school year additional staff will be hired in an effort to reduce class sizes down to approximately 20 students to 1 teacher, This creates the need for additional classroom space. In order to successfully accomplish the educational mission and objectives of the District in accordance with applicable state and federal statues, regulation and guidelines, the District would like to provide one additional portable classroom to provide the appropriate classroom space to accommodate reduced class sizes. I hope this helps better support the need for one portable classroom. Please don't hesitate with any questions regarding this matter.
