SUBJECT: VENICE PIZZA SIGN
Dear Dennis:
As you are aware, the sign at your establishment was never properly permitted. In order to
obtain approval for the sign, you must submit a sign permit application. With the application, the
Planning Division will review the sign to make sure that it complies with the regulations of
Edmonds Community Development Code 20.60.020.
According to the Edmonds Community Development Code (ECDC) 20.60.005, your sign is
defined as a boxed cabinet sign and an internally illuminated sign. This type of sign is only
allowed in Firdale Village (zoned Neighborhood Business) provided specific conditions are met.
The sign permit application must demonstrate the following in order to receive approval:
1. Internally illuminated signs may only light the letters. The background of a sign face may
not be illuminated. (ECDC 20.60.020M2)
2. The background color of a boxed cabinet sign face must be opaque and not allow any
internal illumination to shine through. (ECDC 20.60.020M9)
The existing sign with a white background does not meet the above requirements, so a change
to the sign color will be necessary.
You can obtain the application materials during our regular business hours, Monday, Tuesday,
Thursday or Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. If you have questions about the permitting process,
ask to speak with a permit coordinator. If you have further questions, please contact me at
425.771.0220, ext. 1223.
Sincerely,
Kathleen Taylor
