RE: Mechanical and Kitchen Equipment Division of Responsibilities
Dear Kristin:
It appears that we are having an issue with the mechanical permit for the Edmonds Waterfront
Center due to the division of responsibilities between our Mechanical Subcontractor (Emerald Aire)
and the Clients kitchen equipment supplier (Smith & Greene). Listed below is the responsibility
matrix for the two scopes of work. I am hoping that this will clear up the permit issue for Emerald
Aire and give focus to the kitchen equipment supplier to confirm what their permit needs to cover.
Emerald Aire Permit Responsibilities:
1. Rated grease duct from the hood to the roof. Welded metal shaft with ceramic fire blanket to
meet the rating.
2. Emerald Aire will install the roof top MUA and exhaust fan units for the cooking hood
(cooking hood supplied and installed by Smith & Greene).
3. HVAC system complete.
Smith & Greene Permit Responsibilities:
1. Provide and install cooking hood and Ansul system (connects to grease duct provided by
Emerald Aire).
2. Provide and install kitchen equipment (walk-in box, kitchen equipment, dishwasher, etc.).
I am hoping that this division of responsibilities listed above is adequate to help determine the
responsibility matrix for the permitting at the Edmonds Waterfront Center. The division in scope
listed above is the result of the clients (Edmonds Senior Center) choosing a supplier/scope that
requires two subcontractors to perform distinct and separate scopes of work relating to the
cooking hood and cooking hood exhaust systems.
Please review and contact me with your response or questions.
CC: Emerald Aire
