Sample collection:
AESI representative drove to site and discussed with the grading contractor future compaction tests as well as backfill materials for a
sewer line to be installed from 12' Ave and Viewland Way running east to west on the south side of Viewland Way downhill to where
Viewland Way crosses Olympic Drive. AESI obtained approximately 80lbs. of soil from a stockpile consisting of approximately 10 cubic
yards of material located within the driveway at 1135 Viewland Way. The stockpile intended for utility backfill consisted of 5/8" minus
crushed rock. AESI returned the sample to AESI Kirkland office for a modified Proctor test. AESI will return the following day
(4/27/2018) to perform compaction testing following the completion of the Proctor test.

THE FOLLOWING WAS NOTED:
AESI was contacted by client to observe the backfill of a new sewer line.
The newly installed and backfilled sewer line runs east to west downhill along the south side of Viewcrest Dr. where it
connects to the existing sewer utility system running North to South along the East side of Olympic Ave. The trench for
the sewer installation was up to 6' deep and a trench box was used during pipe installation. AESI observed the
contractor place backfill in approximately 2' lifts which were then compacted using a hoepack attached to a medium size
excavator. In the area immediately around the access manhole at the intersection of Olympic and Viewcrest , a jumping
jack was used for compaction. The fill consisted of 5/8" minus crushed rock and was imported onto site using several
dump trucks. Using a nuclear gauge, compaction tests were performed at -4' from subgrade and at subgrade. All tests
performed were over 95% of maximum density, suitable for the installation and backfill of sewage utilities. Test results
are summarized in Table 1 below. Test locations are shown on page 2.

THE FOLLOWING WAS NOTED:
Associated Earth Sciences, Inc. (AESI) was on site at the contractor's request for part-time geotechnical observation and
testing. While on site we spoke with Bill of Shoreline Construction.
Sewer Main:
Prior to AESI's arrival the contractor had excavated a trench 7 feet deep for the sewer main line in Viewland Way and laid
approximately 80 feet of sewer line. While we were on site the contractor set structure SSMH #2 and connected it to the
sewer line. The trench was backfilled with 5/8" minus crushed rock. The backfill was placed in lifts and compacted after
every lift with a hoe pack until it was firm and unyielding. AESI used a portable nuclear density gauge to take tests in the
backfill. The test results are shown in the table below and the test locations are shown on the sewer plan on page 2. AESI
will return tomorrow for additional observation and testing. .

THE FOLLOWING WAS NOTED:
We were on site for construction monitoring of earthwork activities. While on site, we met with Jeff from Shoreline Construction, Chris
from the City of Edmonds and spoke with Shad from Smallwood.
Side Sewer:
Upon our arrival, the earthwork contractor informed us they were still in the process of installing the side sewer line from the main line in
Viewland Way at station 3+22. We observed the depth of cover for the about 20 feet run of side sewer line ranged from 10 to 6 feet, from main to
clean out. The contractor backfilled and compacted the side sewer trench line with 5/8 inch minus crushed rock in 2 to 3 feet lifts with a hoe pac
mounted on an excavator.
We performed two in place density readings on the compacted trench line backfill with results that ranged from 95 to 97% of the
maximum dry density. We were able to penetrate from 2 to 4 inches into the surface of the compacted lifts with a 1/2 inch diameter probe rod.
Conclusion:
We informed both the general and earthwork contractors the side sewer trench backf!II observed today met the 95% compaction criteria.
The earthwork contractor informed us that they had completed the installation of the sewer main and side line, and would pave the street within a
month. The general contractor also informed us they anticipate installation of the pin piles for the proposed residence within a month.
