Dear Ms. Wayland and Mr. Richardson,
The signing off of our building permit is at the top of my priority. Applying for and being
approved for a sport court in our yard, unknowingly became an issue with impervious surfaces.
I can authoritatively state that the drainage in our yard is not a problem and it is punitive to
require said changes.
We applied for a permit to have a sport court during the remodel of our home. We did the right
steps. Apparently, no one in the City of Edmonds had applied for a permit for a sport court
before. They didn't have a code or know what to charge us for the permit. After we paid over
$700 for the permit, they approved our sport court.
The question raised was drainage problems of our sport court. We would want our yard to
have proper drainage. We have no issues with drainage. How do I know this? The deep snow
we had for several days in 2018 did not cause flooding or pooling of any kind after the snow
melted. We have no collection of water in any part of our yard with heavy rain. Our impervious
percentage is not affecting the land, soil or the earth anywhere on our property. We also perc
tested the yard (pictures attached) and it passed. The pictures show measurements every hour
and all was drained within three hours and 20 minutes. I also have a video of the test if
needed.
Please consider signing off on our permit so we can proceed to establish our home with a yard
that is composed of more than dirt and weeds and less of a mess for our children and pets.
