HOLD DOWNS SHEAR WALL2-0-tot, do sio David Owens From: John Arsvold Uarsvold@schultzmiller.com] Sent: Tuesday, December 17, 2019 8:15 AM To: David Owens Subject: Fwd: Hold downs Sent from my iPhone Begin forwarded message: From: Gregory Juttner <gjuttner@ssfengineers.com> Date: December 16, 2019 at 11:13:41 AM PST To: Michael Gibson <michael@mkgps.net> Cc: John Arsvold <jarsvold@schultzmiller.com> Subject: RE: Hold downs Hey John and Michael, So I just reviewed the drawings and calculations for this project/area. It looks like we were anticipating that new upgraded shearwall (W2) was going to be 3'-0" in width. So to put it another way, we were anticipating the outside plywood panel edge to outside panel edge be around 36" wide. From there you have your shearwall end post/holdown post which take up another 3 1/2" on each side, plus you got the distance from the HD post to the center of HD...... so center of HD to center of HD would be about = 36" - 3 1/2" - 3 1/2" 1 5/16" - 1 5/16" = 26 3/8" approximately? So you telling me the HD's are 29" apart doesn't worry me really. The picture John just sent me shows the actual panel width are more like 3 1 " or 32" outside to outside. Even if I use a 31" shearwall upgrade width we are still within the capacity of a new W2 shearwall upgrade. Also, we are still within the capacity of a HDU5 holdown. I think we are fine here. Maybe also some explanation why the shearwall is now only 29". We are at about 29" between outside of posts. We basically have them spread as far as possible between the window post and where the foundation steps down about 2'. Had we had the regular inspector this might not have been an issue, but since he's a fill in.... Anyway, hopefully this is just requires a little recalculation. Thanks John Sent from my iPhone
