Edmonds Lions Club Flag Day
WHEREAS, the Edmonds Lions Club is one of the oldest service clubs in Edmonds being Chartered in February
1947; and
WHEREAS, the Lions Clubs International is the largest service club in the world with over 1.4 million members
in over 200 nations; and
WHEREAS, the missions of Lions Clubs International is to empower volunteers to serve their communities,
meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding through
Lions clubs; and
WHEREAS, the Edmonds Lions Club is made of over 35 dedicated community members to make a difference
in the lives of many; and
WHEREAS, the Edmonds Lions Club is dedicated to serving the community with service projects such as camp
for kids with diabetes; CARE project; free eye exams, eyeglasses and hearing aids for children and
adults; high school scholarships; leader dogs; support for the Edmonds Food Bank; providing food
for elementary school children through the food pantry program; and providing Thanksgiving and
Christmas Baskets for needy families; and
WHEREAS, the Edmonds Lions Club For the past 30 years have loaded three trucks to post in front of over 320
participating businesses throughout the community. The flags are posted on: Martin Luther King
Day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Columbus Day, General
Election, and Veterans Day; and
WHEREAS, the members and visitors to our community take great pride in this display of over 300 flags; and
WHEREAS, the 30t" Anniversary of the Edmonds Lions Club Flags for the Holidays Project occurs on Martin
Luther King Jr Day Monday January 20, 2020;
Now, therefore, I, Mike Nelson, Mayor of Edmonds, in recognition of the 30th anniversary, of the Edmonds
Lions Club Flags for the Holidays project, and in recognition of the dedicated members of the Edmonds Lions
Club, and their support for the many community projects that make our community a better place to live, do
hereby proclaim Monday, January 20, 2020:
