Multi -Purpose Field
Drainage, Aggregate and Turf Installation Inspections/Reports
The following is a collection of documents from DA Hogan and Associated Earth Sciences that were
created to record the specific construction stage that involved installation of drainage, permeable
aggregate and synthetic turf at Edmonds Woodway High School. DA Hogan and Associated Earth
Sciences both accepted the process and resulting quality of the drainage system installed. The synthetic
turf shall be accepted pending punch list completion. The attached documents include:
• DA Hogan field reports for each week that drainage work was performed
• DA Hogan synthetic turf punch list of the multipurpose field
• Associated Earth Sciences field reports during the period of installation of drainage
• Associated Earth Sciences sieve reports of permeable aggregate
DA Hogan recommends approval for special inspections on the drainage, aggregate and turf installation
at Edmonds Woodway High School based on the observations/results presented in the following
reports.

Drainage system special inspection, Multi -purpose field
D.A. Hogan was on site on the week of August 13-16, 2019 to inspect lateral lines W-28 through W-
26 on the 13th, W-25 through W-23 on the 14th, W-22 through W-21 on the 15th, and W-20 through
W-19 on the 16th. Trench depth and subgrade elevations were inspected in multiple areas and
approved. It was confirmed by DA Hogan that there was 2" below each lateral line pipe per plan.
Pea gravel from the pile of aggregate on site was tested and approved per specification. In
conclusion, all inspections were approved and the lateral lines were constructed per
specification/drawings. See below pictures of progress during this week in August.

Re: Edmonds Woodway High School, Synthetic Turf Conversion
Drainage system special inspection, Multi -purpose field
D.A. Hogan was on site while construction was going on September 11th and 12th, 2019 to inspect
lateral lines E-28 through E-24 on the 11th and E-23 through E-19 on the 12th. Trench depth and
subgrade elevations were inspected in multiple areas and approved. It was confirmed by DA Hogan
that there was 2" below each lateral line pipe per plan. Pea gravel from the pile of aggregate on
site was tested and approved per specification. Heavy rainfall hit the site and left standing water
and a small layer of soft soil on the subgrade. Since the subgrade was at the correct elevation it
was deemed acceptable by DA Hogan to continue with import of base course aggregate. Base
course aggregate was collected on site and tested/approved by AESI. In conclusion, all inspections
were approved and the lateral lines were constructed per specification/drawings. See below
pictures of progress during these two days in September.

D.A. Hogan was on site on the week of September 23rd-27th, 2019 to inspect lateral lines W-17
through W-15 on the 23rd, W-14 through W-10 on the 24th, W-9 through W-4 on the 26th, and W-3
through W-1/ E-1 through E-5 on 27th. Trench depth and subgrade elevations were inspected in
multiple areas and approved. It was confirmed by DA Hogan that there was 2" below each lateral
line pipe per plan. Pea gravel from the pile of aggregate on site was tested and approved per
specification. Heavy rainfall hit the site and left standing water and a small layer of soft soil on the
subgrade. Subgrade in an area of 9,400 sf in right field of the baseball field is showing minor signs
of being unsuitable. Wyser rehabilitated the soil to best of their ability and added geotextile
structural fabric (Geogrid tensor TX 160) in between lateral lines W-16/W-15, W-15/W-14, and W-
14/W-13. In are between W-16 and W-13 the base course aggregate will be installed in one 12.2"
lift to avoid unnecessary vehicle traffic to protect base integrity. After this addition, the subgrade
was at the correct elevation and was deemed acceptable by DA Hogan to continue with import of
base course aggregate. Base course aggregate was collected on site and tested/approved by AESI.
In conclusion, all inspections were approved and the lateral lines were constructed per
specification/drawings. See below pictures of progress during these two days in September.

RE: Edmonds Woodway High School, Synthetic Turf Conversion
Punch List Inspection
Substantial Completion Recommendation, Multipurpose Field (Synthetic Turf only)
DA Hogan & Associates was on site for an inspection of work in progress on Wednesday,
November 13, 2019. The following represents a preliminary punch list inspection for items
related to the synthetic turf surfacing.
SITE OBSERVATIONS / PUNCH LIST
Softball Field
1. Manhole/Nyoplast Catch Basin/Synthetic Turf Cover on left outfield foul line, that lies
on top of the detention chamber system, is not installed. Reinstall and provide flush
transition.
2. Brush lines straight. This occurs throughout the field, but is more noticeable at the
50-yard line of soccer/football field, and extension of the soccer field mid field line.
Pick lines at 50 YL/Mid field line.
3. Buried fibers were found on the soccer midfield line near 2nd base. Untrap fibers at
this location and any other areas where fibers may have been glued or sewed down.
4. Multiple seams are visible in the field. Hand pick out fibers to untrap fiber and mask
all seams.
5. Quick coupler valve between 3r1 base dugout and bullpen is not flush. Repair to flush
condition, consistent with other quick coupler valve boxes.
The record above represents the Engineer's understanding of the site conditions observed, discussions held, and decisions
made during the visit. Any amendments or revisions to this record should be communicated to D.A. Hogan & Associates within
seven days of receipt.

6. Overall infill levels in the field are inconsistent, with layers of sand, and cork resulting
in 1"-1.5" depth of infill (25mm-38mm). Bullpen and batting cage areas have up to
same range of infill. Additional infill and/or grooming is required to result in
approximately .75"-.50" of exposed fiber. Relevel infill.
7. Remove cork from wall drains in right field. Remove/clean up any cork outside of
field.
8. Clean up loose fiber and rock/dirt debris on the field. Maintenance access, in
particular, has heavy traffic causing dirt on the turf.
9. Trim J-hooks and long fibers throughout the field.
10. After field is brushed, and infill levels are brought to tolerance (+/- 5mm), this
preliminary punch list will be completed in its entirety after additional infill is applied
and leveled on the field surface.
11. Document quantities of sand/cork installed.
12. Provide GMAX tests
13. Provide warranty documents and O/M Manual
14. Provide O/M Manual for furnished equipment

While onsite, we collected a sample of base course permeable aggregate for sieve analysis.
Excavation Observation:
Prior to our arrival, the contractor stripped 4" of loose, wet soils from the northeast end of the baseball field (Figure 1). They then re -
compacted the more competent soil underneath with a large and small vibratory roller (Figure 2). Contractors were placing base
course permeable aggregate over the southern portion of the field (Figure 3).
