2021-02-04 Tree Board MinutespF E D4, Edmonds Citizens' Tree Board ne,np P APPROVED MEETING NOTES 4,gqo February 04, 2021 The Edmonds Citizens' Tree Board Zoom Meeting was called to order at 6:01 p.m. by Board Member Barbara Chase via Zoom meeting, Edmonds, WA. BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: STAFF PRESENT Barbara Chase co-chair Debra Dill, Parks and Recreation Frank Caruso co-chair Jennifer Leach, Environmental Education & Sustainability Coordinator Ross Dimmick Bill Phipps Donna Murphy Brian Doyle Suzanne Juer ensen BOARD MEMBER(S) ABSENT: ELECTED OFFICIAL PRESENT Doug Peterson Diane Buckshnis ELECTED OFFICIAL ABSENT CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 6:01 pm ROLL CALL: Doug Petersen -was absent. APPROVAL OF AGENDA: Agenda was approved; added 2 items under old business. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Minutes of January 7, 2021 approved. AUDIENCE COMMENTS: Jenn Leach -Frances Anderson Center, Program Coordinator Environmental Stewardship, discussed their brochure/literature rack in the center and how the Tree Board can reach out to her with its literature. Discussed Earth Day activities (see Earth Day new business) Email (sent January 31, 2021) from Gail Shoemake with Interfaith Climate Action regarding the proposed Edmonds' Tree Code was discussed. OLD BUSINESS: A. Barbara Chase discussed the status of tree planting and other natives at Edmonds Elementary. Maintenance of said plantings could be an issue since the school district is concerned about upkeep.' B. Status of Tree Code: Bill Phipps reported regarding the phone conversation with Lisa Dulude, Energy and Environmental Sustainability Manager, Snohomish County. Discussion Snohomish County Healthy Forest Project and partnerships with local parks and organizations for carbon off -sets projects. This may be further explored after completion of the Gap Analysis and the Board gets through the Tree Code approval process. C. Gayle Lovell: where to keep books or like a green room as a shared resources area, such as: library's resource center, Frances Anderson Center. Discussed looking into a "Free Lending Library" at one of the parks. Donna will follow up with Parks and Recreation. NEW BUSINESS: A. Questions regarding the planting of tress and other natives is still in the process of waiting to see what the facilities/maintenance: more to come. B. Suzanne Juergensen sent around information from Forterra. Information included: Green City Partnership information, discussion of community coordinations, working with Snohomish Healthy Forest Initiatives, and inviting the representative to attend March meeting to discuss programs for Edmonds. Programs may include land trusts, tree banks, and how has Forterra worked with other cities to develop initiatives. C. Places to plant trees: Shell Creek (entrance) trial trees in areas like a demonstration garden. Debra Dill will follow up and update us. D. Earth Day Activities: Jenn Leach: every year for the last four years, the Tree Board partners with the park stewards usually doing some sort of work party. Last year was cancelled due to Covid. This year, Parks Department and Edmonds' Stewards can create small, limited work parties, following Covid protocol and safety in a few (3) locations such as Yost (forest site), Marsh (buffer) and maybe beach or Pine Ridge clean up. It would include limited people, bringing own gloves, masks, and social distancing. There would be a check -in protocol, pre -meeting and registration would be required. Would the Tree Board members be able to help on April 241h from either 9-12 or 10-1? Diane moved to provide $75 for snacks (individually wrapped) Suzanne second it, all in favor. E. More discussion about the Tree bingo boards for community engagement. Donna will reach out to Suzanne, Barbara, and Debra about specific species.
