Engineer on record-memoCcivil & structural ENGINEERING engineering & planning MEMORANDUM To: Sarah Cook From: Joe Galusha, PE, SE, Associate Principal Date: October 13, 2020 Re: 20419 811 Ave West, Edmonds, WA — Kitchen Remodel (CG 20378.10) The client at 20419 81st Ave West, Edmonds, is renovating the interior of the single-family residence, primarily the kitchen and dining room. We made a site visit on 10.09.2020 to observe the construction progress. The following issues were discussed on site with the architect and homeowner. • The new 3 1/8" x 15" glulam beam that was installed at the roof over the kitchen should have connection hardware installed at the end connections. We recommend Simpson A34 clips, one each side of the beam at each end (4 total) between the beam and double top plate. • The homeowner is planning to swap the kitchen slider and the dining room window. The rough openings are similar in size and therefore able to fit within the extents of the existing headers. Shear wall lengths will also be very similar to the existing conditions. We recommend a minimum of (1) cripple and (1) full height stud at each end of each header location. • We have evaluated the 3 1/8" x 15" glulam beam that was installed at the roof over the kitchen. It has sufficient capacity forthe span and loads imposed by the roof framing. If there are any questions that arise based on this memo, please do not hesitate to call or email for clarification.
