Electronic documents submitted to the City of Edmonds for plan review and permit issuance must be provided in a format that does
not prevent the City from making code comments on the documents during review or from making the documents ready for permit
issuance. Documents submitted in any manner that prevents the City from completing the review and permit issuance process,
including but not limited to submitting documents that are locked, may result in additional review time, permitting delays, and/or
cancellation of the permit application if the problem is not resolved by the applicant in a timely manner.
Please refer to chapter 18.43 RCW, chapter 18.210 RCW, chapter 196-23 WAC and chapter 196-33 WAC for Washington State laws
governing electronic documents. An interpretative guideline from the Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land

Supplemental Name: Residential Generators
Residential generator permits are required to go through plan review. Please upload site plan and documentation showing the
following:
• Title block showing:
Site Address
Owner's Name
Contractor's information (if different than owner)
• Location of generator.
• Indicate setbacks to: Property lines, sidewalks and streets. Other equipment such as air conditioners, heat pumps and gas
meters. Openings into the home including doors, operable windows and vents. Combustible materials such as structures and
vegetation.
• Placement of the generator must comply with the rear and side yard setbacks, is prohibited within the front yard of any property
and cannot be within 10 feet of a road.
• Exhaust port must be 5 ft. minimum distance from all building openings.
• Show all other equipment such as air conditioners, heat pumps, gas regulators, meters, and all combustibles.
• Noise output levels as measured in decibels. Please refer to the manufactures' specification sheet.
• Specify the type of foundation as well as the method of anchoring for seismic and wind loads. In flood prone areas, show how
the generator will be installed above base flood elevation.
• Generator's specifications and type of fuel used. The generator must be approved by the manufacturer for its intended
installation, application, and use.
In addition to the City of Edmonds mechanical permit, an electrical permit must be obtained through Washington State L & I.
