Revised 1112912016 LvE*- l :I' 11 OCT 0 6 20V 17126 Talbot Rd Sunroom rebuild V-U'i p DEPARTMENT Attachment F - design notes Existing sunroom roof and windows are failing prompting this rebuild. The new plan involves a modified roof which is shorter at its' highest point than the existing sunroom roof. The sunroom roof is lower than the existing house roof at all corners (no increase to height calculations of the house). The roof (see roofing plan, Attachment A) will be framed with pressure treated (PT) beams to form a cantilevered roof extending 30" to the SE, and 1.5' to the SW. Beams used are 6x12 (approximately 20 lbs/lf), and 4x12 (approximately 13lbs / 10. Note that these notes have been modified from the original submission to reflect a substantially shorter overhang (2.5' instead of 7'), and metal flashing on the overhang to create a waterproof roof section. Since the will no longer be open areas in the overhang, a live load of 50psf (wet snow) has been assumed as worst case. With the additional live load, the 6x6 post loading is slightly higher, but still far below 2/3 of a conservative load capacity. Tipping moment for the structure has overall improved. - 18" overhang to SW and 30" overhang to SE will be covered with metal flashing. Modified roofing load calculations are presented below. - The 6x6 posts at the South and East corners carry the cantilevered load. Even with a conservative compressive PSI of 400 psi, these posts can carry 12000 lbs (far more than required for this installation, see Calc B and C). - Total uplift of 95 lbs at NW end of 6x12 PT beam on SW wall (see Calc D) is easily taken up by 2xTimberlok lags (400 lbs) from 4x12 beam on NW wall, as well as sheathing attachments to wall underneath. - Total uplift of 12 lbs at NW end of 6x12 PT beam on SE wall (see Calc E) is taken up by Spax lags into 4x10 beam.
