Although, I believe, that there might have been an audience member listening in. Yay! All are welcome. OLD BUSINESS: 1) All agreed that our own Donna Murphy's "Edmonds Citizens' Tree Board 2021 Presentation" to the Edmonds City Council was a smash hit! Yes, Donna, you smashed it out of the park! Appreciations and congratulations were shared. Thank you Donna! 2) The Tree Board "little library" idea and "publication center" idea were kicked around a bit more. We are kind of ruling out the little library ... too much maintenance. Not giving up on tree book area at city hall, once they open up again. 3) The Edmonds Annual Earth Day Event, which the Tree Board co -sponsored, was unprecedented in scope and a huge success. Donna reported on the trials and tribulations of ivy pulling at the Marsh. At Yost Park, the youth warriors, Students Saving Salmon, came out in force and got it done! 100 conifers were planted that day! And thank you to our great hard working Parks Department Crew for their coordination. And at the beach, the Edmonds Youth Commission sponsored a beach cleanup. Greatest Edmonds Earth Day ever! Thank you everyone for their hard work and commitment to our environment. 4) Lisa Dulude, Snohomish Energy and Forest Coordinator, follow up. It was agreed that Ms. Dulude is a fantastic advocate for the environment and that we will keep in touch on future forest projects. 5) Edmonds Elementary School Planting watering needs this summer. All agreed that we need to keep an eye on it, and nurture our little planting along. So far, so good. 6) Donna and Brian will take over the Tree ID Tags project this summer. A 500 dollars budget was approved unanimously by the Tree Board, for the making of new tags with QR Code capabilities. Bill will help with taking new measurements of our downtown trees. Thank you Donna and Brian! 7) Edmonds in Bloom is back! It was agreed that the tree board involvement was good in the past. Suzanne graciously volunteered to coordinate our involvement this year. Gail Lovell, Tree Board Alumnus extraordinaire, and Frank have volunteered to help with our presence at this beautiful event. It will be held on July 18, 2021. The Tree Board unanimously approved a one hundred dollar donation to the event organizers this year. NEW BUSINESS: 1) We were honored to welcome two guests, Kathleen Russell and Claudia Turner, representing the Shoreline, WA. citizens group, "Save Shoreline Trees". SST is a private citizens group seeking to preserve Shorelines' mature conifer tree canopy. They are an educational group as well as a lobbying group. Currently they are seeking to strengthen the Shoreline Tree Code. They have an 11 amendment proposal to the Shoreline City Council. The groups' well written code language can be found on their excellent web site: saves horelinetrees.com There proceeded to be a wide ranging discussion between Kathleen and Claudia and the Tree Board on our shared concerns, our cities histories related to tree codes. Our current struggles, our hopes and our dreams. The meetings' note taker got so involved in the discussion he forgot to take notes. But he remembers concerns about the impact of Light Rail Transit construction on Shorelines' forest canopy. There was discussion of the impacts of unprecedented housing construction on our forest canopies. There was discussion of our Perrinville Woods. And there was a lot of discussion on tree codes. It was great to learn of this excellent group and we will stay in touch. Thank you Kathleen and Claudia for your commitment to our trees! TREE BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS: We were all happy to see each other and we enjoyed another excellent Tree Board meeting together. ADJOURN: The meeting was adjourned at 8:00 P.M. Notes submitted by Bill Phipps, who assumes all responsibilities for errors.
