All locations and elevations are approximate and were provided by the contractor. Upon our arrival, the contractor had over -excavated 12" of native footing soils on site since our last site visit (refer to GeoTestrs Soil Observation Report S0002, dated October 23rd, 2020). While on site, GeoTest observed dense, weathered tan to light gray, gravelly, very silty sand or sandy silt within the base of the excavated footings. GeoTest probed these soils and achieved up to 3" of penetration within the spread footings. It is our opinion that these soils currently meet the design requirements put forth in the structural plan set by others, specifying a load -bearing capacity of 2,000 psf. GeoTest will return for further observation upon request. ti ors , )C •d`~ Image 1. Spread footing soil conditions upon our arrival. Upon our arrival, the contractor had over -excavated 12" of native footing soils on site since our last site visit (refer to GeoTest's Soil Observation Report S0001, dated October 2nd, 2020). While on site, GeoTest observed medium dense, weathered tan to orange, gravelly, very silty sand or sandy silt within the base of the excavated footings. GeoTest probed these soils and achieved up to 3" of penetration within the continuous footings, and between 8 and 12" within the outer spread footings. It is our opinion that the more dense soil within the continuous footings currently meet the design requirements put forth in the structural plan set by others, specifying a load -bearing capacity of 2,000 psf. We also recommend that the spread footings be excavated an additional 12" due to soft soil conditions. GeoTest will return for further observation upon request. Prior to our arrival, the contractor had potholed 1.5 feet below the current site grade in two locations. The observable soils within the potholes consisted of a soft, brown, moist, gravelly, slightly sandy silt, interpreted as fill soils. GeoTest used a 3/8" diameter steel soil probe to probe the bottom of the potholes and observed approximately 12" of soft conditions before firm and unyielding soils were encountered. The contractor was notified of our observations while onsite. Image of proposed kitchen addition area, with one of two potholes in the foreground.
