ORDINANCE NO. 9,5(D
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON,
AMENDING SECTION 10.25.090 FILLING OF VACANCIES -
PROBATIONARY PERIOD, SUBPARAGRAPH A ORIGINAL
APPOINTMENT TO DEPARTMENT, TO PROVIDE FOR CERTIF-
ICATION OF NAMES OF THE FIVE HIGHEST INDIVIDUALS
ON THE LIST PER ORIGINAL APPOINTMENT, AND FIXING
A TIME WHEN THE SAME SHALL BECOME EFFECTIVE
WHEREAS, the Civil Service Commission of the City of
Edmonds has recommended to the City Council that it adopt a rule
of five providing that in the event of original appointment, the
Civil Service Commission shall certify the five highest names on
the eligibility list to the City for its review and appointment;
and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that such amendment
would give the City greater discretion and latitude in making its
initial appointments in light of the large number of qualified
applicants for employment with the City, NOW, THEREFORE
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON, DO
ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Section 10.25.090 Filling of Vacancies -
Probationary Period, Subparagraph A Original Appointment to
Department of the City of Edmonds City Code is hereby amended to
read as follows:
10.25.090 Filling of Vacancies - Probationary Period
A. Original Appointment to Department:
Whenever a vacancy exists, or upon the request of
the appointing authority, the Commission shall
certify the names of the five (5) persons highest
on the applicable eligibility list for the class
for which the vacant position has been allocated
but willing to accept employment.
[Existing paragraphs B,C and D remain unaffected by
this amendment and are confirmed in their entirety.]
Section This ordinance, being an administrative
action, is not subject to referendum and shall take effect five
(5) days after publication of the attached summary which is
hereby approved.
