AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON,
AMENDING SECTION 11.02.061 OF THE EDMONDS CITY
CODE AMENDING SECTION 1714 OF THE UNIFORM BUILDING
CODE ESTABLISHING THE HEIGHTS OF GUARDRAILS.
WHEREAS, it is in the interests of the public health,
safety and general welfare to establish uniformity in the
requirement of height of guardrails in all occupancies within
the City of Edmonds, now, therefore,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON, DO
ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Section 11.02.061 of the Edmonds City Code
is hereby amended to read as follows:
11.02.061 Guardrails=-5ectiori'1714 of Uniform
Building Code. Section 1714 of the Uniform Building
Code as adopted by reference in this chapter is
amended and set forth as follows:
"All unenclosed floor and roof openings;
open and glazed sides of landings and
stairs; balconies or porches which are
more than 30 inches above grade; and roofs
used for other than service of the build-
ing shall be protected by a guardrail.
Guardrails shall be not less than 42 inches
in height, provided however, guardrails
not over 10 feet above the adjacent finished
grade may be 36 inches high. Open guard-
rails and stair railings shall have inter-
mediate rails or an ornamental pattern such
that no object 9 inches in diameter can
pass through. Stair railings shall be not
less than 30 inches above the nosing of the
treads."
