AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON,
AMENDING SECTION 6.30.060 OF THE EDMONDS CITY CODE
TO REQUIRE UNDERGROUNDING OF ALL OVERHEAD ELECTRIC
AND COMMUNICATION SERVICE FACILITIES FOR ANY BUILD-
ING OR STRUCTURE LOCATED IN AN AREA ZONED COMMERCIAL
OR INDUSTRIAL IN SAID CITY WHEN THERE ARE ADDITIONS,
ALTERATIONS OR REPAIRS WITHIN ANY TWELVE MONTH
PERIOD WHICH EXCEED FIFTY PERCENT OF THE VALUE OF
SAID EXISTING BUILDING OR STRUCTURE.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Edmonds, Washington,
has previously found that it is in the interest of the public
health, safety and general welfare to require undergrounding of
overhead electric and communication service facilities for any
new building structures in commercial developments, and
WHEREAS, the City Council has found that such overhead
electric and communication service facilities serving the exist-
ing buildings that are subjected to major additions, alterations
or repairs should likewise be underground in conjunction with
such additions, alterations or repairs, therefore,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON DO
ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 6.30.060. Underground Requirements --Business of
the Edmonds City Code is hereby amended by additing a new sub-
section (3) as follows:
"6.30.060. Underground Requirements. Business: (3)
All overhead electric and communication service facil-
ities for existing buildings, structures and commercial
developments shall be undergrounded to said building
structures or commercial development whenever there are
additions, alterations, or repairs within any twelve
month period which exceed fifty percent of the value of
any such existing building, structure or commercial
development."
