Ordinance 1862ORDINANCE NO. 1362- AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON, AMENDING CHAPTER 1.25 OF THE EDMONDS CITY CODE TO PROVIDE FOR HOLIDAYS IN ACCORDANCE WITH STATE LAW AND TO PROVIDE TWENTY DAYS OF VACATION FOR EMPLOYEES WHO HAVE SERVED TWELVE CONTINUOUS YEARS. WHEREAS, there is a need for the City to review its vaca- tion policy from time to time, and WHEREAS, the Washington State Legislature has specifically provided that all political subdivisions of the state shall observe certain holidays, now, therefore, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON, DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 1.25.020 of the Edmonds City Code is hereby amended to read as follows: "1.25.020. Holidays. Each employee shall be entitled to one day away from service for each.of the following holidays: January lst (New Year's Day) February 12th (Lincoln's Birthday) Third Monday of February (Washington's Birthday) Last Monday of May (Memorial Day) July 4th (Anniversary of Declaration of Independence) First Monday .in September (Labor Day) November llth (Veteran's Day) Fourth Thursday of November (Thanksgiving Day) Day immediately following Thanksgiving Day December 25th (Christmas Day) An additional "floating" holiday The "floating" holiday shall be provided in accordance with the rules and regulations of the personnel manual promulgated and approved by the Mayor. Each employee who, because of the nature of his service, serves on a holiday, shall be permitted one full day away from service with full pay on a day in which he would have otherwise served. Such day away from service shall be set at the convenience of the City, but shall be set within twelve months of the holiday upon which he served. If any work is performed by such employee on such holiday, additional compensation at straight time shall be paid. No employee -1- shall be called on such holiday for less than a full day. When any of the aforementioned holidays falls on Sunday, the Monday following shall be considered the holiday. If the holiday occurs during an employee's vacation, he shall receive the holiday pay in addition to his vacation pay. Nothing in this section shall be construed to have the effect of adding or deleting the number of paid holidays provided for in any existing agreement between the City and any group or groups of employees of the City. If any of the above set forth legal holidays are also federal legal holidays but observed on different dates, only the holiday occurring on the date specified shall be recognized as a paid legal holiday. In no case shall both be recognized as paid legal holidays for employees. Section 2. Section 1.25.030(A)(4) of the Edmonds City Code is hereby amended to read as follows: "1.25.030(A)(4). Twenty days of vacation after twelve full years of continuous service." APPROVED: MAYOR, R. H.
