AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON,
ADDING A NEW SECTION 12.14.057 TO THE EDMONDS CITY
CODE AND ESTABLISHING REQUIREMENTS FOR SECURITY
UNITS.
WHEREAS, pursuant to Planning Commission Resolution No.
552 the City Council of the City of Edmonds, Washington
called a public hearing and during said hearing, having
determined it to be in the best interest of the public
health, safety and general welfare to amend the Edmonds
Zoning Ordinance as set forth pursuant to Planning Commis-
sion Resolution No. 552, as modified, and having determined
that there will be no significant adverse environmental
impacts, now, therefore,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON, DO
ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. A new Section 12.14.057 in the Edmonds City
Code is hereby created to read as follows:
"12.14.057 Security Units Permitted. A security unit
is a building, mobile home, trailer, or vehicle used
temporarily in connection with providing security
during construction of a structure or building for
which a valid building permit has been issued. A
security unit is permitted in all zones under the
following conditions:
1. All sanitation facilities and safety measures
shall be required to be approved in advance by the
building official, health official or other ap-
propriate city official.
2. Unless earlier directed by the building official
pursuant to Section 12.14.057 (3) of the Edmonds
City Code, security units in the following zones
must be removed after the following time periods:
(a) In an RS zone -- six months
(b) All other zones -- one year. Provided, how-
ever, a security unit may be permitted to

remain longer than one year in other than an
RS zone, subject to issuance of a conditional
use permit.
3. Notwithstanding any time limits set forth above,
the building official is authorized to order the
removal of a security unit in any of the following
situations:
(a) Upon expiration or cancellation of the build-
ing permit;
(b) Upon issuance of an occupancy permit;
(c) Whenever the building official determines the
security structure is no longer needed to
provide protection against theft and/or
vandalism.
