AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON,
AMENDING SECTION 1.25.040 OF THE EDMONDS CITY
CODE, ALLOWING DEPARTMENT HEADS AND ASSISTANT
DEPARTMENT HEADS TO REGULATE THEIR HOURS OF WORK,
WITH THE APPROVAL OF THEIR SUPERVISOR.
WHEREAS, department heads and assistant department heads
frequently must work in excess of regular hours in order to
properly perform their duties and to carry out the responsi-
bilities delegated to them, and
WHEREAS, such work in excess of regular hours should
not entitle these department heads and assistant department
heads to an equal amount of compensating time on a one-to-
one basis, and
WHEREAS, however, sound personnel management requires
that supervisors have the discretion to allow these department
heads and assistant department heads to make adjustments in
their hours of work, so long as they fulfill their duties
and responsibilities to the City, now, therefore,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON, DO
ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1.25.040 of the Edmonds City Code is hereby
amended to read as follows:
"1.25.040 Compensating Time. When work beyond
regular hours for any employee is required of an
employee by the city, an equal amount of compensating
time may be allowed as city requirements will permit.
The compensating time off from service shall be
taken at the convenience of the city, and within

"the twelve-month period following the date of the
service performed beyond the employee's regular hours.
Department heads and assistant department heads shall
not receive compensating time. Provided, however
department heads and assistant department heads may make
adjustments in their hours of work, consistent with
the needs of the city, if they have received prior
approval of their supervisor."
