We visited the site today at the request of Deborah Binder to provide geotechnical consultation and
earthwork construction monitoring services for the residential development project located at 8912 —
192°d Street SW in Edmonds, WA.
Upon arrival, we met with Leif, the contractor on site, to discuss the current excavation progress. We
noticed that the foundation and basement subgrade had been completely excavated. We were requested
to evaluate the subgrade for bearing capacity.
Foundation and basement subgrade consisted of a gray silty sand with gravel which we interpreted as
native glacial till. We evaluated the subgrade with a V2 inch diameter steel probe rod under moderate
pressure. Probing yielded less than %2 inch, which we interpreted as dense or better conditions. It was
noted that a roughly 100 square foot portion of the foundations in the southwestern corner probed up to
4 inches. We interpreted this as medium dense and recommended its removal before foundations were
placed. The contractor on site said this would be done.
While on site we also evaluated the cut stability of the basement excavations. Excavation cuts were
roughly 8 feet in height and consist completely of the native glacial till. We observed no signs caving or
signs of imminent failure while on site. Basement cuts appeared stable at the time of our site visit.
Our findings and conclusions are based on observations made while on site_ Foundation subgrade and
the temporary basement cuts appear to be prepared in accordance to the approved site plans and our
recommendations and should support the planned loads. We are able to return to the site upon request.

We visited the site today on behalf of the owners to observe the drainage system installation and temporary cut
conditions located at the above address in partial fulfilment of the permit requirements. Upon arrival we met with
John the contractor to discuss the current status of the project.
Upon arrival to the site, we observed that foundations had been completely constructed, and that footing drains
had been installed around the lowest exterior portions of the structure in temporary excavations. Drain board was
installed on subsurface walls above footing drains. Footing drains were properly oriented and connected, and
were connected on either side of foundations with sleeve 'culverts' beneath the footings where necessary. We
understand the contractor intends to place drain rock above the footing drains, which was partially stockpiled on -
site. Other areas of backfill are intended to utilize select, native excavation spoils.
While on site, we also observed the cut stability of the basement excavations. Temporary excavation cuts were
roughly 8 feet in height and consisted completely of the native, glacial till. We observed no signs caving or signs
of imminent failure while on site. Temporary cuts appeared stable at the time of our site visit.
We are currently experiencing significant precipitation. We documented the presence of erosion control in the
form of silt fencing on the downhill, western portion of the site. We recommended covering soil stockpiles to
retain optimum moisture content, due to their fine-grained nature. If stockpiles are exposed to too much
precipitation, they may not function adequately as backfill until dried back to optimum conditions.
We have been providing geotechnical consultation and construction monitoring services on a part-time basis. Our
findings and conclusions are based on specific observations made while on site. In our opinion, the drainage
installed around the perimeter of the foundations appeared to be installed correctly. We will continue to monitor
the construction, specifically backfill compaction processes in accordance with permit requirements, and are
available to return to the site upon request to provide additional consultation.

We visited the site today on behalf of the owners to observe backfill compaction around the building foundations
as part of the permit requirements. Upon arrival, we met with John, the contractor, to discuss the current
construction operations.
We observed that foundations were backfilled with the on -site soils to within 2 feet of the top of the footings.
Backfill material consisted of a brown silty sand with trace organics compacted with a hand operated jumping
jack. We evaluated the backfill with a %: inch diameter steel probe rod under moderate pressure. Probing yielded
up to 1 inch, which we interpreted as medium dense or better conditions.
We have been providing geotechnical consultation and construction monitoring services on a part-time basis. Our
findings and conclusions are based on specific observations made while on site. In our opinion, that the backfill
placed around the foundations is compacted in accordance with the approved site plans and our
recommendations. If further geotechnical consultation is required, we are available to return to the site upon
request.
