Jun 01 2021 CITY OF EDMONDS DEVELOPMENT SERVICES DEPARTMENT I have reviewed this building permit application on behalf of the Planning Division. During review, it was found that the following corrections need to be addressed. Please submit Updated plans with changes called out, any requested reports, and summarize the changes in a cover letter: 1. Portables: Please submit information demonstrating the need for the portable classrooms. ECDC 17.100.050.E indicates portable classrooms are allowed where the applicant demonstrates by substantial evidence that additional space is necessary to accomplish the educational mission or objectives of the school in accordance with applicable state and federal statutes, regulations, and guidelines. Nick Chou response In 2020, the Edmonds School District Enrollement Committee conducted a study that revealed the District is operating its elementary school at 107% capacity. The District has handled this disparity by installing more than 40 relocatable classrooms since 2014, but the needs to add capacity for an additional 2,000 to 2,400 elementary students by 2028 to handle enrollement growth. Both Sherwood and Westgate Elementary Schools are heavily affected by the impacts of enrollment growth and in order to address that current pressure a combined Kingergarten Center at the Former Woodway Elementary site will help alleviate this immediate need.
