Subject: Slope Setback Clarification
Proposed Single -Family Residence
15712 — 72nd Avenue West
Edmonds, Washington
Dear Mr. O'Neal:

Our firm previously prepared a study for this project dated January 18, 2017, a "Geotechnical Hazard
Identification/Declaration and Mitigation Statement of Risk" Letter dated May 4, 2017, a letter regarding
proposed rockeries and a pool dated July 18, 2017, and lastly a review letter for the project dated
November 21, 2017. This letter is to provide clarification of regarding buffer and building setbacks from
the steep slope that is on the western side of the .property.
In our earlier documents, and as shown on the permitted project plans by LDC, we recommended a 25-
foot buffer from the western slope. With the exception of the removal of a few unsuitable trees, this
buffer will indeed not be disturbed. We also recommended a 45-foot building setback; this is also shown
in the project plans. However, there seems to be some confusion that we have recommended the 45-
foot building setback also be a no -disturbance (buffer -like) setback. This is not the case. As is shown on
the permitted plans, and as we have approved in our November 21 plan review letter, the residence
foundation structure will be at or outside of the 45-foot building setback, but some of the upper portion of
the residence is inside of the 45-foot building setback; the upper portion cantilevers over the foundation
but does not touch the ground. Our firm always knew that, and was comfortable with having, ground
disturbance so that the cantilevered portion could be constructed. It was never our intention of having
the 45-foot building setback as a no -disturbance zone; that is what the 25-foot buffer is intended for.
We trust that this report meets your immediate needs for the proposed development. If there are any
questions regarding this letter, or if we can be of further service, please contact us.
Respectfully submitted,

A Krazan representative visited the project site today for soils compaction testing only. We visited the project
site on two separate occasions.
Morning Visit Upon our arrival, we met John and Terry with MBCI, and Danny with AAA: TE. We were
informed by the earthwork contractor, AAA: TE that the placement of the overflow basin structure and backfill
compaction of its surrounding will happen later around noon. Soils have been excavated for the planned
overflow basin structure. The bottom and sides of the excavation generally consisted of sand with silt and silty
sand with gravel respectively. The sides of the excavation was benched for worker's safety.
Afternoon Visit Upon our arrival, the earthwork contractor has completed the excavation for the placement
of the overflow basin structure. A 6-in thick crushed gravel base was placed as leveling pad. The crushed
gravel base was compacted using a jumping jack. The underlying soils and crushed gravel base were probed
about 1-in to 2-in under moderate pressure using a '/z-in diameter steel T-probe rod. During our visit, we
observed the earthwork contractor place the bottom half of the overflow basin structure and backfill its
surrounding area using the on -site silty sand with gravel. We performed two (2) compaction tests and
compaction results are pending upon obtaining the laboratory results per ASTM D1557 (modified proctor) of
the sampled soils today. It should be noted that obtained compaction readings were typical compaction
readings to meet or exceed the 95% compaction requirement. Please refer to soils compaction report no.
18208SCRO61318-NG for compaction results.

Krazan Representative visited the project site today to inspect and perform testing of soil compaction using the nuclear
gauge. Upon arrival contractor had installed new catch basin. Contractor placed approximately 4 ft of native soil on top of
what was left on the previous day(6/13/2018). Contractor compacted the soils using a jumping jack to a firm and unyielding
condition. Performed 1 compaction test for the soils around the catch basin and compaction results appeared to meet the
minimum 95% compaction required.

A Krazan & Associates, Inc. representative was onsite to monitor and observe the drilling and subsequent placing of .
concrete for the piles of the new single family home. Holes were verified to be at a depth of at least 40' and a diameter of
2'. Material excavated began as a yellowish -brown silty sand and transitioned to a gray/brownish-gray sandy silt. The
material removed from the last few feet of the first pile appeared to be slightly oversaturated; this was not observed on
other piles. Piles drilled were the I It, 31, 51, 71, 91, and 111 piles moving bottom to top on the foundation plan. Plans used
were those prepared by Nash & Associates dated 11/16/17.
The representative observed and inspected the placement of cast -in -place concrete at the locations previously mentioned.
The first truck arrived and the pour began at 12:30. Mix used was a 3,000 PSI, code 3PMP806. One set of five cylinders
were cast from the pour; please see concrete report for testing results. The pour concluded at 5:05 with a total of 37.5 cubic
yards being placed.

The underlying soils and crushed gravel base were probed
about 1-in to 2-in under moderate pressure using a %z-in diameter steel T-probe rod.
