We find the drawings to be in substantial compliance with applicable codes. The following items should be noted as Conditions of Permit Approval: Deferred submittals. None Special inspections are required to be provided on this project as specified within the structural drawings: concrete, reinforcing steel, steel fabrication & erection, and post-installed anchors. Reference the Structural Notes on sheet S1.1 Geotechnical inspections are required as recommended by the geotechnical engineer, Zipper Geo (Geotechnical Engineering Report, Mar-Vel Marble Redevelopment, 202 Main Street, Edmonds, WA, Project No. 1798.01, November 21, 2017). Once compacted, subgrades should be evaluated by a geotechnical engineer thorough visual observation, density testing, and proof rolling if the building excavation is accessible with heavy rubber-tired construction equipment given site access to assess the subgrade adequacy and to detect soft and/or yielding soils. (p. 10) We recommend that Zipper Geo Associates, LLC be retained to provide geotechnical engineering services during the earthwork-related construction phases of the project. If variations in subsurface conditions are observed at that time, a qualified geotechnical engineer could provide additional geotechnical recommendations to the contractor and design team in a timely manner as the project construction progresses.
