Parking deck structure observation
Dear Mr. Harbo:

I visited the property in September to assess potential concerns related to the condition of the
framing at the parking deck. Several items were deemed insufficient to sustain loading so a
repair scheme was warranted. I agreed to work with a preferred contractor to improve the
structure to the extent possible. I designed a compliant system and advised the contractor during
the conduct of the work.
On March 18, I again visited the site to observe the progress of the work. I deemed that the work
is compliant with the design intent and that the structure is able to support parking for normal
weight vehicles and associated uses.
Generally, the rotting bracing was removed, and a 10 ft x 30 ft storage platform / deck was added
below the parking slab. This storage platform / deck should be limited to a live load of 40 psf.
Drawings and calculations are attached to this report. Due to the recent weather, the contractor
has been unable to seal the slab. This work is critical to preserve the investment in the storage
structure and so it should be done as soon as the situation is suitable.
