As requested, a representative from PanGEO was on site September 16 through 19 and September 24 to
observe installation of soldier piles and timber lagging, and back -fill after timber lagging installation. While
on site we also observed and monitored the excavation and soils.
Soldier Pile Installation.
During our site visits, the shoring -
contractor, Pearson Drilling, installed 11 I~ _
soldier piles along the south and east walls
of the shoring plan (see attached Figure 1, "
below). The soldier piles were of varying '
sizes and are detailed further in the
installation records at the end of this report.
Included are the design tip elevations and
the observed field elevations, estimated
from the surveyed hub elevations on -site.
Also included are general soil conditions
encountered daring drilling.
30-inch nominal diameter holes were Photo l— Setting Pile P5,9/18/2019;
augered with a Hitachi EX200 excavator looking approximately Gast
equipped with an open flight auger, See Photo 1, above. Steel piles were then placed in the drilled holes and
holes were then filled with lean -mix concrete from Cadman and pumped into the holes using a Schwing
SP 1000 concrete pump.
Based on our observations, all piles were installed in general accordance with the project plans, and the
minimum design embedment depths were met.

FIELD REPORT
Soldier Pile Laing and Backfill:
During our site visit on September 24th, the shoring
contractor, Pearson Drilling, installed timber lagging at
the shoring walls to the bottom of design excavation
elevations along the south and east walls of the shoring
plans. The earthwork contractor initially excavated
approximately a four -foot lift at a time in each bay, and
4x12 timbers were cut and installed until bottom of
excavation was reached at approximately EL 494 feet.
No significant sloughing of the cuts was observed during
lagging installation, and based on our observations, the
temporary cuts remained stable (see Photo 2, right).

On -site native material (clean, poorly -graded, sand) was used as backfill behind the lagging as each bay was
completed. Based on our observations, the soldier pile shoring walls were properly backfilled and was
acceptable in our opinion.
Please note, as designed treated 4x12 timbers were to be used as lagging for the shoring wall, but it was
confirmed and approved by the project structural engineers to use the provided untreated timbers for this
application.
Observe and Monitor Excavation and Soils:
During our site visits, we observed the temporary cuts
above the east shoring wall to the east property line had
difficulty retaining shape at a grade of 1H:1V. The near -
surface exposed soils generally consisted of clean sand.
To provide a safe work area while lagging, the contractor
installed plywood and 4x 12 lagging boards, supported by
25-foot long 2-inch pin piles behind the east shoring wall
to retain the loose clean sand (see Photo 3 on the right).
