RE: Curb and Fastening Design
As requested we have reviewed the fastener design for the unit to curb attachment and curb attachment
to roof to support seismic and wind design loads which may be applied to the units it is supporting.
From the supplied design criteria, we used a spectral response acceleration of 1.33g. Modification and
system over -strength factors of 6.0 and 2.5 respectively were used. A wind speed of 185 mph. was used,
with exposure C and risk category I, II, III, and IV. The mean roof height of the building was 60'. An
analysis was performed on the rooftop unit provided. For the rooftop unit the weight provided ranged
between 450b. and 1100lbs.. The roof itself was not included in this analysis.
Based on the wind and seismic analyses we determined the governing load conditions for vertical
loading and shear. Here are our findings from the analysis of the curb supporting the rooftop unit.

Therefore, based on the design criteria provided, we have applied both wind and seismic reactions to the
unit and curb to determine the fastening requirements. During our analysis, we determined that (8) #14
TEK screws will be required per each long side of the curb into both unit and curb for a total of (16).
We checked the adequacy of the connection of the curbs to the structure, and the curb itself. The top of
the curb was also checked in flexure and shear, and was found to be adequate. Isolators were assumed to
be the JQA models, which were adequate, and the spring supports were also checked in compression and
found to be adequate.

VAK ME1ld®
1111212019
Connection of the curb to the roof requires fasteners on both sides of the curb. Without knowing which
fasteners to be used, 0.5" 0 A307 Bolts into steel, '/4" SDS Wood Screws into wood, and 5/8" Simpson
Strong Bolts with 3.5" effective embedment into concrete were checked. From our analysis, we
recommend either (8) 0.5" 0 A307 Bolts with (2) per short side, (10) 1/4" SDS Wood Screws with a
3.5" embedment with (8) per short side, or (4) 5/8" Simpson Strong Bolts with 3.5" of effective
embedment per side of curb. If concrete is used, at least 6" of depth is necessary. For each fastener,
install per manufacturer specifications and located 5/8" away from the curb wall.
Please feel free to contact us should anything further be required or if questions arise.

Sam Gardner, E.I.T.

CDI'S "ISO CURB" INCORPORATES THE LATEST IN DESIGN AND INNOVATION for the HVAC market
utilizing adjustable isolators in a single piece curb system. CDI Curb systems may be fully installed and roofed in
prior to mounting RTU/AHU minimizing unaccounted labor time and delays with other "field assembly
required" curbs on the market. Prime G-90 18ga weather skirting and bulb style weather seal provide a long
lasting solution to the cracking and failing of "other" exposed rubber weather seal designs. All curb systems
are subjected to SoliclWorks Simulation load testing prior to fabrication accommodating RTU/AHU and all
accessories weight and center of gravity insuring a minimum 90% isolation efficiency.

CURB SPECIFICATIONS
Vibration Isolation curb systems are manufactured of 12-18ga (ASTM A653/653M) prime G90 galvanized steel
construction. All corners and seams are mitered and fully welded with internal 12ga/A.I. structural cross and
vertical supports when necessary. All curb systems are water tight and plenum applications are air tight utilizing
internal flex duct. Top of all Vibration isolation curb systems are level with pitches built into curb when deck
slopes. Vibration isolation curb systems are designed to provide a minimum of 90% isolation efficiency with
2" deflection.

Calculation methods used in this program are patterned after the ASHRAE Guide; other ASHRAE Publications and the AHRI Acoustical
Standards. While a very significant effort has been made to insure the technical accuracy of this program, it is assumed that the user
is knowledgeable in the art of system sound estimation and is aware of the tolerances involved in real world acoustical estimation.
This program makes certain assumptions as to the dominant sound sources and sound paths which may not always be appropriate to
the real system being estimated. Because of this, no assurances can be offered that this software will always generate an accurate
sound prediction from user supplied input data. If in doubt about the estimation of expected sound levels in a space, an Acoustical
Engineer or a person with sound prediction expertise should be consulted.
