On horizontal pipe they shall be installed on the top side of the pipe where they will be accessible. The device should not be installed within 6" (15 cm) of a fitting which changes the direction of the waterflow or within 24" (60 cm) of a valve or drain. NOTE: Do not leave cover off for an extended period of time. Drain the system and drill a hole in the pipe using a hole saw in a slow speed drill (see Fig. 1). Clean the inside pipe of all growth or other material for a distance equal to the pipe diameter on either side of the hole. Roll the vane so that it may be inserted into the hole; do not bend or crease it. Insert the vane so that the arrow on the saddle points in the direction of the waterflow. Take care not to damage the non -corrosive bushing in the saddle. The bushing should fit inside the hole in the pipe. Install the saddle strap and tighten nuts alternately to required torque (see the chart in Fig. 1). The vane must not rub the inside of the pipe or bind in any way. A CAUTION Do not trim the paddle. Failure to follow these instructions may prevent the device from operating and will void the warranty. Do not obstruct or otherwise prevent the trip stem of the flow switch from moving when water flows as this could damage the flow switch and prevent an alarm. If an alarm is not desired, a qualified technician should disable the alarm system. NOTE: It is important to note that the pressure rating of the relief valve indicates an operating range of pressure for both opening and closing of the valve. Standard relief valves are required to OPEN in a range of pressure between 90% and 105% of their rating. The valves are required to CLOSE at a pressure above 80% of that rating. The relief valve should be installed where it is easily accessible for maintenance. Care should be taken that the relief valve CANNOT be isolated from the system when the system is operational. A relief valve should NEVER have a shutoff valve or a plug downstream of its outlet. SS-M1011T_V001 - 06/13 TESTANDRAIN is a registered trademark of AGF Manufacturing Inc. IT ACTUATOR/PUSH ROD CHAMBER General The Reliable Model EX Low Pressure Dry Pipe Valve is a hydraulically operated, differential latching clapper -type valve (see Fig 1.) designed for use as a primary control valve in a dry pipe valve system. The trim set used with the Model EX Low Pressure Dry Pipe Valve allows the sys- tem's air or nitrogen pressure requirement to be consider- ably less than the available water supply pressure (See Table A, page 7). The following benefits are a direct result of the ability to use lower air pressure: 1. In refrigerated area systems, lower air pressure de- creases the possibility of ice plugs, which could im- pede or prevent the flow of water to sprinkler heads in the event of fire. 2. Lower air pressure (volume) will enable smaller ca- pacity, lower cost dehydration equipment when it is required. 3. Lower air or nitrogen pressure can reduce water de- livery time when the system actuates, and in some cases, may eliminate the need for an accelerator. 4. Low pressure requirements make the use of dry ni- trogen gas, instead of air, practical even on larger systems. Resulting benefits include a lower -than -air dew point, which minimizes ice plugging of system lines, and enhances "user friendliness" during in- stallation and operation. 5. System maintenance is simplified since priming water is not required and the Dry Pipe Valve can be reset externally without cover removal. This is ac- complished by pushing in and turning the external reset knob at the rear of the Dry Pipe Valve (see Fig.1). This feature provides a significant system - restoration time advantage. The Model EX Low Pressure Dry Pipe Valve's trim set (see Fig.2) provides all of the necessary equipment for connec- tions to the pushrod chamber's inlet and outlet ports, the 1'/4" (30mm) or 2" (50mm) main drain, alarm devices, air supply, water supply and required pressure gauges. This trim set is available in individual parts, in time -saving, seg- mentally assembled kit forms, or fully assembled to the Model EX Low Pressure Dry Pipe Valve (with or without a control valve). All the sizes of the Model EX Low Pressure Dry Pipe Valve trim sets may be equipped with the optional Reliable Model B1 Accelerator, trim kit P/N 6516000003, (see Figs. 2 & 3). This device acts as an exhauster which will hasten the operation of the Model EX Low Pressure Dry Valve and minimize the water delivery time for the entire system. System Operation The Reliable Model EX Low Pressure Dry Pipe Valve is shown in both closed and open positions in Fig. 1. In the closed position, the supply pressure acts on the underside of the clapper and also on the push rod through the push rod chamber's inlet restriction. The resultant force due to the supply pressure acting on the push rod is multiplied by the mechanical advantage of the lever and is more than sufficient to hold the clapper closed against normal sup- ply pressure surges. When a sprinkler operates, there will be a loss of air or nitrogen pressure in the sprinkler system's piping which will cause the Model EX Low Pressure Dry Valve to open. The loss of air pressure allows a releasing discharge of water from the pushrod chamber. Since the pressure can- not be replenished through the inlet restriction as rapidly as it is vented, the push rod chamber pressure falls in- stantaneously. When the push rod chamber pressure ap- proaches approximately one-third of the supply pressure, the upward force of the supply pressure acting beneath the clapper overcomes the lever -applied force thereby opening the clapper. Once the clapper has opened, the lever acts as a latch, preventing the clapper from returning to the closed po- sition. Water from the supply flows through the Dry Pipe Valve into the system piping. Water also flows through the Dry Pipe Valve's alarm outlet to the alarm devices. After system shutdown, resetting the Model EX Low Pressure Dry Pipe Valve is quite simple. Doing so only re- quires pushing in and turning the reset knob at the rear of the valve (see Fig. 1). The external reset feature of the Model EX Low Pressure Dry Pipe Valve provides a means for simple, economical system testing, which is one es- sential facet of a good maintenance program. The external reset feature does not, however, eliminate another impor- tant facet of good maintenance, namely, periodic cleaning and inspection of the internal valve parts. In the event that water builds up inside the valve due to condensate from the air supply system or water left inside from valve system testing, a drain is available for venting. After closing the main supply valve, a small valve over the drain cup can be opened slightly until the water inside the valve body and the main pipe column has drained. The Model B Manual Emergency Station is also included in the Model EX Low Pressure Dry Pipe Valve trim set. It consists of an aluminum nameplate mechanically at- tached to a ball valve. The valve handle in its OFF position is guarded against accidental turning to the ON position (and system discharge) by a nylon cable tie provided with each trim kit. The cable tie is inserted after the system has been restored for operation. The nylon cable tie is de- signed to allow, in case of an emergency, forceful turning of the valve handle to the ON position. As an alternative to the Model B Hydraulic Manual Emergency Station, the Model A Hydraulic Manual Emergency Pull Box (see Reli- able Bulletin 506) is also available and can be provided as an option. Whenever ambient temperature conditions are high, the water temperature in the Model EX Low Pressure Dry Pipe Valve's pushrod chamber could possibly increase, thereby increasing the pressure in the chamber to values exceed- ing the rated pressure of the system. In an indoor installa- tion where standard room temperatures are exceeded, a pressure relief kit may be needed. Pressure relief kit, P/N 6503050001, can be installed into the pushrod chamber's releasing line to limit the pressure to 250 psi (17.2 bar). 3. rl LOW AIR PRESSURE SWITCH (NOT INCLUDED WITH LOOSE AND SEGMENTALLY ASSEMBLED) FROM AIR OR / NITROGEN SUPPLY / PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE I ENTTO I ATMOSPHERE TO MODEL EX SYSTEMQ OPTIONAL PUSH -ROD CHAMBER DVALV E VALVE MODELBI PRESSURE GAUGE ACCELERATOR KIT (PART NUMBER 651600DOI3) I L/ PSI TO CRIP UP TO DRIP CUP - re-sm f I I I t4,b I TO ALARM PRESSURE SWITCH DRAIN (NOT INCLUDED WITH LOOSE AND SEGMENTALLY ASSEMBLED) I I I / TO MECHANICAL GPRINKLER ALARM I ' / J' / / TO NON-SHENCEABLE ALARM PRESSURE SWITCH (REF. Fire sprinkler systems with working pressures above 150 psi are required to be hydrostatically tested at 50 psi above the system working pressure and maintain that pressure without loss for two hours. In addition to the hydrostatic tests described above, dry pipe systems require an ad- ditional low pressure air test. In some cases, hydrostatic testing (in accordance with the NFPA 13 requirements noted above) will result in pres- sures that exceed the working Pressure of the valve and trim kit for the two-hour test period. The valve and appli- cable trim kit have been tested, approved and listed under these conditions and as such, hydrostatic testing in accor- dance with NFPA 13 is acceptable. In addition, the clap- per can remain in the closed position and the trim kit need not be isolated, as each has been designed to withstand hydrostatic testing as required by NFPA 13. Hydrostatically testing the valve and trim to pres- sures higher than their rating is limited to the hydrostatic test as referenced by NFPA13. It does not address the occurrence(s) of a "water hammer" effect, which can in- deed damage the valve. A "water hammer" in the water supply piping of the valve can create pressures in excess of the rated pressure and should be avoided by all neces- sary means. This condition may be created from improper fire pump settings, underground construction work, or an improper venting of trapped air in the water supply piping Technical Data Reliable Model EX Low Pressure Dry Pipe Valves, with associated trim, sizes 2" (50mm), 21/2" (65mm), 3" (80mm), 76mm & 8" (200mm) are rated for use at a minimum water supply pressure of 20 psi (1.4 bar) and a maximum water supply pressure of 250 psi (17.2 bar), sizes 4" (100mm), 6" (150mm) & 165mm are rated for use at a minimum wa- ter supply pressure of 20 psi (1.4 bar) and a maximum wa- ter supply pressure of 300 psi (20.7 bar). Water supplied to the inlet of the valve and to the pushrod chamber must be maintained between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C). Table A specifies the air or nitrogen pressure level to be applied to the Model EX Dry Pipe Valve. Optional Reliable Model A-2 Pressure Maintenance Device (see Reliable Bulletins 254) automatically provides a safeguard against pressure leaks in the sprinkler piping, and properly restricts the flow of makeup air. When the optional Model B1 Accelerator is used, a Model A-2 Pressure Maintenance Device and a tank -mounted air compressor are required. Also, when a Model 131 Accelerator is used, to expedite water -delivery time, the pneumatic pressure must not be less than 15 psi (1.0 bar). Whenever multiple dry systems are installed at the same location, each dry system is to have its own Model A-2 Pressure Maintenance Device installed for individual maintenance of air pressure (Refer to the 2007 Edition of NFPA 13, section 7.2.6.5.3). PRINTED IN USA MFG. #5400930 - REV D PAGE 3 OF 3 1 /08 Bulletin 251 Rev. T Models A-2 & B-1 Automatic Pressure Maintenance Devices Instructions for Installation, Operation, Care and Maintenance Reliable Automatic Sprinkler Co., Inc., 103 Fairview Park Drive, Elmsford, New York 10523 Operation Adjustment • Model A-2 Pressure Maintenance Device (Refer to Figure 1) The Model A-2 Pressure Maintenance Device (PMD) is de- signed for use where a source of compressed air (plant air system, tank -mounted compressor with a pressure control, etc.) or nitrogen cylinder (equipped with a regulating de- vice) is available (refer to the section in this technical bulle- tin titled "Installation"). The regulator in the Model A-2 PMD reduces higher pressure air or nitrogen to a level required by a dry pipe valve, dry pilot line, or a deluge valve based preaction system. The Model A-2 PMD will maintain a con- stant pressure in the system regardless of any pressure fluctuations from the compressed air or nitrogen source. Basic functionality of components (refer to Figure 1)The strainer's (Item 2) function is to prevent any foreign matter that may be present in the air supply, from traveling to the regulator (Item 1) and the check valve (Item 3), thereby en- suring their normal operation. The check valve's function is to prevent the reverse flow of water resulting from a dry pipe or deluge valve's operation, from reaching the regulator. The globe valves (Item 4) allow for the servicing (if needed) of the strainer (Item 2) and regulator (Item 1) without having to shut down the sprinkler system. The ball valve (Item 5) permits the rapid restoration (quick -fill) of the required sys- tem air pressure after service or operation. The ball valve (Item 5) must be closed and the globe valves (Item 4) must be open for proper automatic operation. • Models B-1 Pressure Maintenance Device (Refer to Figure 2) The Model B-1 Pressure Maintenance Device (PMD) is designed for use in conjunction with the Reliable Model A Tankless Air Compressor in order to maintain the correct air pressure in a dry pipe valve or dry pilot line (refer to the section in this technical bulletin titled "Installation"). The Re- liable Model A Tankless Air Compressor is controlled on or off by the air pressure level present in the dry pipe valve or dry pilot line via wiring between the compressor's motor and the contacts of the Model B-1 PMD's pressure switch. Basic functionality of components (referto Figure 21 A drop in the sprinkler system's air pressure causes the contacts of the pressure switch (Item 1) to close, thereby activating the air compressor. When the pre -adjusted level of air pressure is restored, the pressure switch's contacts re -open, thereby deactivating the air compressor. The pressure switch (Item 1) is also equipped with an unloader valve that automati- cally bleeds off the air compressor's outlet pressure each time the contacts of the pressure switch open. This protects the air compressor's motor from overloading during start- up. Like the Model A-2 PMD, the Model B-1 has a strainer (Item 2) for contamination control and a check valve (Item 3) to prevent reverse water flow. The ball valve (Item 5) and globe valves (Item 4) are also identical in configuration and function as with the Model A-2 PMD. Likewise, the ball valve (Item 5) must be closed and the globe valves (Item 4) must be open for proper automatic operation • Model A-2 Pressure Maintenance Device (Refer to Figure 1) The pressure regulator (Item 1) is factory set to maintain a nominal system air or nitrogen pressure of 30 psi (2,1 bar). In order to change the outlet pressure, loosen the locknut at the top of regulator and turn the adjustment screw clockwise to increase pressure. To decrease the pressure, turn the adjusting screw counter clockwise. The resulting pressure can be determined at the sprinkler system air gauge once the air flow through the device has ceased, or at the optional gauge location. Shown on Figure 1. Note: The Iocknut of the regulator (Item 1) must be tight- ened after adjusting in order to prevent an accidental change in the pressure setting. Adjustable Outlet Pressure Range: 5 psi to 100 psi (0.34 bar to 6.9 bar) Maximum Inlet Pressure: 175 psi (12 bar) • Model B-1 Pressure Maintenance Device The pressure switch (Item 1) is factory set to maintain a nominal system air pressure of 35 psi (2,4 bar). In order to change the setting, remove the pressure switch's cov- er and follow the directions contained within the switch. Inspection and Maintenance Refer to Figures 1 & 2. 1. Review the latest NFPA 13 and NFPA 25 Standards, any appropriate dry pipe or deluge valve installation bulletins, and the section in this bulletin titled "Instal- lation" to ensure that the pressure maintenance de- vice is installed properly. 2. Make sure that both '/4" globe valves (Item 4) are open and that the 3/4" ball valve (Item 5) is closed. 3. Check the gas pressure in the dry pipe, deluge or preaction system at the pressure gauge located on those devices. See the section titled "Adjustment" if any are required. 4. If maintenance is to be performed on Items 1, 2 or 3 of the pressure maintenance device, make sure that both globe valves (Item 4) are closed and that pressure has been relieved from the section through the union (Item 6). These valves must be opened again in order to restore proper automatic operation. 5. The strainer (Item 2) should be cleaned periodically to prevent contamination from blocking air flow. This can be done by removing the strainer's cap and wip- ing or blowing off any collected debris. 6. Make sure the check valve (Item 3) is installed ac- cording to the schematic with the arrow on its hex- agonal side pointing in the required direction of air flow. 7. If the regulator (Item 1) in the Model A-2 Pressure Maintenance Device is constantly leaking at the ad- justing screw, the regulator may contain dirt keep- ing the poppet open and should be cleaned or re- placed. 8. Check the inside housing of pressure switch (Item 1) of the Model B-1 Pressure Maintenance Device for dirt or foreign matter and verify that the wiring is fastened securely and is wiring insulation is in good condition. WARNING: Do not contact the electrical wiring when the power is on Installation As shown in Figures 4 through 13, Pressure Maintenance Devices are installed in the air supply line leading to the dry pipe valve, deluge or preaction systems. With the Model A-2 PMD the air supply is a tank mounted compressor with a pressure control switch, or a Nitrogen supply equipped with a regulating device. With the Model B-1 PMD, the air supply is an air compressor without a pressure control switch. An extra outlet connection is provided on all of the models for mounting an optional pressure gauge to moni- tor the outlet pressure. Model A-2 Pressure Maintenance Device a. Make sure the air flow through the Pressure Maintenance Device is as shown by the arrows in Figures 1, 4, 6, 8, 9 and 11-13. b. Install the Pressure Maintenance Device as close to the dry pipe valve air line trimmings as pos- sible. Install the Pressure Maintenance Device in the air supply immediately leading to the del- uge or preaction trim. Refer to separate dry pipe valve, deluge valve or preaction system bulletins for the additional installation information. Model B-1 Pressure Maintenance Device a. Make sure the air flow through the Device is as shown by the arrows in Figures 2, 5-7 and10. b. Remove the pressure switch's (Item 1) cover and connect the wiring in accordance with the Nation- al Electric Code or other appropriate standards. The connections should be as shown in Figure 3 for single phase wiring of thermally protected compressor motors. Model 8000 Bronze, Threaded Model 8000 Bronze, Thread x Groove Model 8011 Sch. 40 Powdercoated Model 8011 Bronze, Grooved Model 8000 Sch. 40 Powdercoated NOTE: It is important to note that the pressure rating of the relief valve indicates an operating range of pressure for both opening and closing of the valve. SS-M8000M8011-COM • 02/14 TESTANDRAIN® and REMOTETESTO are registered trademarks of AGF Manufacturing Inc. FIRE SPRINKLER CORPORATION DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION 6' ; 150mm & 8" MODEL RCV SWING CHECK VALVE STANDARD & "SHOTGUN" Globe Model RCV Swing Check Valves feature a swing type clapper designed for use in fire sprinkler or other types of water piping systems that incorporate grooved connecting pipe ends. They are effectively used when it is necessary to permit water flow in one direction only, preventing flow in the reverse direction (non -return). Because the RCV incorporates a spring -loaded clapper assembly, it may be installed in either the vertical position (upward flow only) or horizontal position (hinge pin to the top). Most commonly, it is used with various configurations of fire department connections for fire sprinkler systems, by-pass connections, grav- ity pressure tank and, pump discharge in connections from public water supplies to automatic sprinkler systems, etc. As an alternative to using an alarm check valve with a wet sprinkler system, an RCV Swing Check Valve may be used in a "Shotgun" arrangement whereby the valve is trimmed in a similar manner but utilizes an electric water flow switch and alarm bell instead of a water motor gong for fire notification. The body of the Globe RCV Swing Check Valve is constructed of high tensile strength cast iron having considerable ductility to reduce damage infield handling. It meets the ASTM A126 Class B rating. The RCV clapper assembly is made of stainless steel and has an E.P.D.M. rubber facing. It effectively provides a leak tight seal against back pressures greater than one (1) psi. The 3mm glass -bulb pendent sprinklers permit the efficient use of residential water supplies for sprinkler coverage in residential fire protection design. The low flow F1 Res sprinklers are specially engineered for fast thermal response to meet the sensitive fire protection applica- tion needs of the latest residential market standards (UL 1626 Standard). Upon fire conditions, rising heat causes a sprinkler's heat -sensitive element, glass bulb or link to actuate, releasing the waterway for water flow onto the deflector, evenly distributing the discharged water to control a fire. Technical Data: • Thermal Sensor: Soldered Element (Link) or Nominal 3mm glass -bulb • Sprinkler Frame : Brass Casting • Sprinklers' Pressure Rating : 175 psi Factory Hydrostatically Tested to 500 psi • Thread Size: 1/2" NPT (R'/2) • K-Factor: 3.0 (43.2) (Actual) - F1 Res 30 Pendent Sprinkler 4.9 (70.6) (Actual) - F1 Res 49 Pendent Sprinkler 5.8 (83.5) (Actual) - F1 Res 58 Pendent & HSW Sprinkler 7.6 (109)(Actual) - F1 Res 76 Pendent Sprinkler 4.4 (63) (Actual) - F1 Res 44 HSW Sprinkler • Density: Minimum 0.05 gpm/ft2 Reliable Automatic Sprinkler Co., Inc., 103 Fairview Park Drive, Elmsford, New York 10523 Application Model F1 Res Sprinklers are used for Residential Fire Pro- tection according to UL 1626 Standard*. IV Model F1 FR series sprinklers are Stan- dard Spray sprinklers, with the excep- tion of the Model F1 FR56 Conventional XLH Recessed sprinkler which is an Old-style/Conven- Pendent FP tional sprinkler. The Model F1 FR Series automatic sprinklers utilize a 3.0 mm frangible glass bulb. These sprinklers have demonstrat- ed response times in laboratory tests which are five to ten times faster than standard response sprinklers. This quick response enables the Model F1 FR Series sprinklers to apply water to a fire faster than standard -response sprinklers of the same temperature rating. The glass bulb consists of an accurately controlled amount of special fluid hermetically sealed inside a precisely man- ufactured glass capsule. This glass bulb is specially con- structed to provide fast thermal response. Cj c 0 Dj Reliable Automatic Sprinkler Co., Inc., 103 Fairview Park Drive, Elmsford, New York 10523 At normal temperatures, the glass bulb contains the fluid in both the liquid and vapor phases. The vapor phase can be seen as a small bubble. As heat is applied, the liquid expands, forcing the bubble smaller and smaller as the liq- uid pressure increases. Continued heating forces the liquid to push out against the bulb, causing the glass to shatter, opening the waterway and allowing the deflector to distrib- ute the discharging water. Model F1 FR Series sprinklers provide a wide range of op- tions where quick -response, glass bulb sprinklers are used: • Pendent, recessed pendent, upright, horizontal sidewall, and vertical sidewall deflectors • K-factors of 2.8 (40 metric), 4.0 (57 metric), 4.2 (60 metric), and 5.6 (80 metric) • Flush, recessed, and concealed installations See the Design and Installation Information table in this Bulletin for information on the approvals and availability of specific Model F1 FR series sprinkler configurations. Model F1 FR Recessed Pendent and Recessed Horizon- tal Sidewall sprinklers are required to be used with Reliable Model F1, F2, or FP recessed escutcheons. See the Re- cessed Escutcheon Data table in this Bulletin for listing and approval information with each specific Model F1 FR series sprinkler. Model F1 and F2 recessed escutcheons, shown in Fig. 1 and 3, are a friction fit assembly allowing for 3/4-inch (19mm) and 1/2-inch (12.7mm) of adjustment, respectively. Model FP recessed escutcheons, shown in Fig. 2, provide a 1/2-inch (12.7mm) threaded adjustment. Model F1 FR56 Concealed Pendent and Model F1 FR56LL Concealed Pendent sprinklers are required to be used with Model CCP cover plates. A standard profile Model CCP cov- er plate is available that provides up to 1/2-inch (12.7mm) of cover plate adjustment. In addition, a low profile Model CCP cover plate is also available that provides up to 5/16-inch (8.Omm) of cover plate adjustment. See the Design and In- stallation Information and Listed and Approved Temperature Ratings tables in this Bulletin for further information on ap- proved cover plate options. Application Model F1 FR Series sprinklers are intended for use in accordance with NFPA 13, FM Property Loss Prevention Data Sheets, and the requirements of the Authority Hav- ing Jurisdiction. Care must be exercised that the k-factor, temperature rating, deflector style, and sprinkler type are in accordance with the requirements of the applicable design and installation standards. In addition, Model F1 FR Series sprinklers must be used in accordance with their listings and approvals, as well as the information provided in this Bulletin. Installation Glass bulb sprinklers have orange bulb protectors or pro- tective caps to minimize bulb damage during shipping, han- dling and installation. Reliable sprinkler installation wrench- es are designed to install sprinklers with bulb protectors in place. Remove the bulb protector at the time when the sprin- kler system is placed in service for fire protection. Removal of the bulb protector before this time may leave the bulb vul- nerable to damage. Remove bulb protectors by undoing the clasp by hand. Do not use tools to remove bulb protectors. Model F1 FR Series sprinklers must be installed with the Reliable sprinkler installation wrench identified in the Design and Installation Information table in this Bulletin. Any other wrench may damage the sprinkler. A leak tight sprinkler joint can be obtained with a torque of 8 to 18 lb-ft (11 to 24 N-m). Do not tighten sprinklers over the maximum recommended installation torque. Exceeding the maximum recommended installation torque may cause leakage or impairment of the sprinkler. Recessed Sprinklers Model F1 FR Series Recessed sprinklers are to be installed as shown in Fig. 1, Fig. 2, or Fig. 3, as applicable to the spe- cific model being installed. The Recessed Escutcheon Data table in the Bulletin identifies the only recessed escutcheons that are permitted to be used with each Model F1 FR Series Recessed sprinkler. The use of any other recessed escutch- eon will void all approvals and negate all warranties. Concealed Sprinklers Model F1 FR Series Concealed Pendent sprinklers are to be installed as shown in Fig. 4 or Fig. 5, as applicable to the selected cover plate. Model F1 FR56 Concealed Pendent and Model F1 FR56LL Concealed Pendent sprinklers have a factory -installed Model CCP cup. A protective cap is in- stalled at the factory that should remain on the sprinkler until the sprinkler is installed and should then be reinstalled on the sprinkler until the cover plate is installed. The concealed sprinkler assemblies are completed by the installation of a Model CCP push-on/thread-off cover plate assembly. The cover plate and sprinkler cup assemblies are joined using a cover plate skirt with flexible tabs for threaded engage- ment. A choice of two Model CCP cover plate assemblies provides either 1/2-inch (13mm) or 5/8-inch (8mm) of cover adjustment. Do not install Model F1 FR Series Concealed Pendent sprinklers in ceilings which have positive pressure in the space above. Model F1 FR Series Concealed Pendent sprinklers require a 2-5/8-inch (67mm) diameter hole to be cut in the ceiling. The Model RC1 wrench is used to engage the sprinkler wrenching surfaces and to install the sprinkler in the fitting. Remove the protective cap to install the sprinkler, then reinstall the protective cap until the cover plate is installed. When inserting or remov- ing the wrench from the sprinkler/cup assembly, care should be taken to prevent damage to the sprinkler. Do not wrench any other part of the sprinkler/cup assembly. Installation is com- pleted by removing the protective cap from the sprinkler and pushing the cover plate onto the cup. Final adjustment is made by hand turning the cover plate until the skirt flange makes full contact with the ceiling. Cover plate removal requires turning the cover plate in the counter clockwise direction. After installation, inspect all sprinklers to ensure that there is a gap between the cover plate and ceiling and that the four cup slots are open and free from any air flow impediment to the space above. Concealed cover plate/cup assemblies are listed only for use with specific sprinklers. The use of any concealed cover plate/cup assembly other than the Reliable Model CCP with Model F1 FR56 Concealed Pendent and Model F1 FR56LL Concealed Pendent sprinklers or the use of the Model CCP Concealed cover plate assembly on any sprinkler with which it is not specifically listed my prevent good fire pro- tection and will void all guarantees, warranties, listings and approvals. a Technical Data: Sensitivity: Quick -response Thread Size: 1/2-inch NPT standard; ISO 7-R1/2 optional Maximum Working Pressure: 175 psi (12 bar) - 100% Factory tested hydrostatically to 500 psi (34.5 bar) SIN RA1425, RA1414 & RA1435 cULus listed for 250 psi (17 bar) Design and Installation Information Model Nominal K-factor Nominal Orifice Diameter Deflector/ Orientation Nominal Sprinkler Height Installation Wrench SIN Listings and Approvals Approval Notes US Metric inches mm inches mm Pendent 2.25 57 D or W2 RA1411 cULus 2 Recessed Pendent 2.25 57 GFR2 RA1411 cULus 2 F1FR28 2.8 40 38 10 Upright 2.25 57 D or W2 RA1421 cULus 1,2 F1 FR40 4.0 57 3/8 10 Pendent 2.25 57 D or W2 RA1418 VdS Recessed Pendent 2.25 57 GFR2 RA1418 VdS Pendent 2.25 57 D or W2 RA1413 cULus 2 Recessed Pendent 2.25 57 GFR2 RA1413 cULus 2 F1 FR42 4.2 60 7/16 10 Upright 2.25 57 D or W2 RA1423 cULus 1,2 F1 FR42LL 4.2 60 7/16 10 Pendent 2.25 57 D or W2 RA1410 cULus, ULH Recessed Pendent 2.25 57 GFR2 RA1410 cULus, ULH F1 FRXLH Pendent 2.25 57 D or W2 RA1413 cULus 2 Recessed Pendent 2.25 57 GFR2 RA1413 cULus 2 (F1FR42 4.2 60 7/16 10 with Pintle) Upright 2.25 57 D or W2 RA1423 cULus 1,2 Pendent 2.25 57 D or W2 RA1414 cULus, FM, LPCB, VdS, EC 1,2,3,4 Recessed Pendent 2.25 57 GFR2 RA1414 cULus, FM, LPCB, VdS, EC 1,2,3,4 Concealed Pendent 2.25 57 RC1 RA1414 cULus,VdS,EC 5,6 F1 FR56 5.6 80 112 15 Upright 2.25 57 D or W2 RA1425 cULus, FM, LPCB, VdS, EC 1,2,3,4 "Conventional (Pendent or Upright)" 2.25 57 D or W2 RA1475 LPCB, VdS, EC 4 Pendent 2.25 57 D or W2 RA1415 cULus, ULH 1 Fl FR56LL 5.6 80 112 15 Recessed Pendent 2.25 57 GFR2 RA1415 cULus, ULH Concealed Pendent 2.25 57 RC1 RA1415 cULus, ULH 6 Horizontal Sidewall 2.63 67 D or W2 RA1435 cULus, FM 1,2,3,7 F1FR56 5.6 80 1/2 15 Recessed Horizontal Sidewall 2.63 67 GFR2 RA1435 cULus, FM 8 F1FR56 5.6 80 1/2 15 Vertical Sidewall (Pendent or Upright) 2.25 57 D or W2 RA1485 cULus, FM, LPCB 1,2,3,9 (') cULus Listed Corrosion Resistant sprinkler when ordered with available Polyester coating. The glass bulb consists of an accurately controlled amount of special fluid hermetically sealed inside a precisely manufactured glass capsule. This glass bulb is specially constructed to provide fast thermal response. At normal temperatures, the glass bulb contains the fluid in both the liquid phase and in the vapor phase. The vapor phase can be seen as a small bubble. As heat is applied, the liquid expands forcing the bubble smaller and smaller as the liquid pressure increases. Continued heating forces the liquid to push out against the bulb, causing the glass to shatter, opening the waterway and allowing the deflector to distribute the discharging water. Application Model F156, F142, F1XLH, F128 & Model F156, F142, F1XLH & F128 Recessed sprinklers are used in fixed fire protection systems: Wet, Dry, Deluge or Preaction. Care must exercised that the orifice size, temperature rating, deflector style and sprinkler type are in ac- cordance with the latest published standards of the National Fire Protection Association or the approving Authority Having Jurisdic- tion Installation. Installation Model F156, F142, F1XLH & F128 Series sprinklers are standard response sprinklers intended for installation as specified in NFPA 13. They must also be installed with the Model D Sprinkler Wrench or Model W2 Sprinkler Wrench specifically designed by Reliable for use with these sprinklers. The Model F156, F142, F1XLH & F128 Recessed Sprinklers are to be installed with a maximum recess of 3/4 inch (19mm). The Model F1, F2, and FP Escutcheon illustrated are the only recessed escutcheon to be used with the Model F156, F142, F1 XLH & F128 Recessed Sprinklers. The use of any other recessed escutcheon will void all approvals and negate all warranties. When installing Model F156, F142, F1XLH & F128 Recessed Sprinklers use the Model GFR2 Sprinkler Wrench. Any other type of wrench may damage these sprinklers. Note: A leak tight'/2' NPT (R'h) sprinkler joint can be obtained with a torque of 8 -18 ft-lbs (11- 24 N-m). Do not tighten sprinklers over maximum recommended torque. It may cause leakage or impair- ment of the sprinklers. Glass bulb sprinklers have orange covers to protect the bulb dur- ing the installation process. REMOVE THIS PROTECTION ONLY AFTER THE SYSTEM HAS BEEN HYDROSTATICALLY TESTED AND, WHEN APPLICABLE, THE ESCUTCHEONS HAVE BEEN INSTALLED. RASCO wrenches are designed to install sprinklers when covers are in place. Ordering Information Specify: 1. Sprinkler Model 2. Sprinkler Type 3. Nominal K-Factor 4. Temperature Rating 5. Escutcheon Data (') (') SIN: RA1335 - cULus and FM permits use with F1 or F2 escutcheons for light hazard only. Maintenance The Model F156, F142, F1XLH & Model F156, F142, F1X- LH & F128 Recessed Sprinklers should be inspected and the sprinkler system maintained in accordance with NFPA 25. Do not clean sprinklers with soap and water, ammonia or any other cleaning fluid. Replace any sprinkler which has been painted (other than factory applied) or damaged in any way. A stock of spare sprinklers should be maintained to allow quick replacement of damaged or operated sprin- klers. Prior to installation, sprinklers should be maintained in the original cartons and packaging until used to minimize the potential for damage to sprinklers that would cause im- proper operation or non -operation.
