05-03-22 Residential Occupancy Code UpdatePUBLIC HEARING NOTICE
EDMONDS CITY COUNCIL
Notice is hereby given that on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, the Edmonds City Council will
hold a public hearing regarding the following Issue:
The City Council will hold a public hearing on draft code amendments
related to residential occupancy and the definition of family. The
proposed code amendments address changes made by the 2021
Washington State Legislature under SIB 5235, which removes the City's
ability to set limits on the number of unrelated people living in a
household.
The proposed amendments remove specific occupancy limits that
currently exist in the Edmonds Community Development Code (ECDC)
replaces them with other criteria and standards to address how the
single-family dwelling (structure) operates. Proposed amendments
include changes to ECDC 20.21.020 Density limitation — Limitation on the
total occupancy, ECCDC 20.21.0030 Criteria for attached accessory
dwelling units, ECDC 20.20.050 Dwelling unit definition, ECDC 21.30.010
Families definition, and 21.90.080 Single-family dwelling unit
definition. These amendments will ensure that the intent of single-family
dwelling units and single-family zoning remains intact without limiting the
number of people living in the household.
The meeting will be held in the Council Chamber of Edmonds Public Safety Complex,
250 5th Avenue N., Edmonds, Washington. Council meetings are scheduled to start at
7:00 p.m. unless otherwise noticed. All interested persons are encouraged to attend and
