CALL TO ORDER AND ROLL CALL
Vice Chair Vogel called the meeting of the Edmonds Historic Preservation Commission to order at 5:33
p.m.

The September 8, 2022 HPC minutes were approved as presented.

NEW BUSINESS
1. HPC Chair Resignation/Election

Vice Chair Vogel reported that Annie Doyon had resigned from the Commission so they needed to choose a
new Chair.
Larry Vogel was unanimously elected as Chair.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
1. Walking Tour — Fall & Holiday Markets — Chair Vogel reported that May is Historic Preservation
Month. He proposed that they gear up for a walking tour in the spring on weekends in conjunction with the
opening of the markets. There was general agreement.
2. Preservationist Newsletter — Chair Vogel recommended timing the production of the newsletter release
to announce that the walking tours would be happening on weekends in the spring. There was consensus to
proceed with this.
ACTION ITEMS
1. Calendar assignments — There was discussion about possible topics and timing for the project.
• Commissioner Spencer noted he was possibly interested in doing the theater, the hotel at 2nd and
Bell, and the weir on Shell Creek where the Yost spring water system originated. Councilmember
Teitzel gave an update regarding the Shell Creek/weir project coming up next year.
• Commissioner Deiner-Karr noted there are a lot of pictures on the FTP site. Commissioners will
select which ones they want to use, notify Commissioner Deiner-Karr, and come up with verbiage.
Some suggestions she had were the center of Edmonds where the fountain is now, tree pictures, and
the old laundry/Demetri's.
• There was discussion about confirmation of dates. Commissioner Kelly was selected to review dates
and times. Ms. Szafran will contact the printer regarding dates/deadlines.
• There was agreement to get the calendar camera-ready by October 31.
COMMISSION CHAIR COMMENTS
Chair Vogel thanked everyone for being here. He is working on some ideas for the New Year to renew the
Commission's focus and refresh their mission. He is open to any ideas others might have.
COMMISSIONER COMMENTS
Commissioner Spencer reported back on the Art Corridor Commission. They are still defining their focus and
have another meeting scheduled.
Commissioner Deiner-Karr had no further comments. Chair Vogel thanked her for the work she has been doing
and will be doing on the calendar.
Commissioner Mitchell commented that as a new resident in Edmonds he is enjoying this calendar project.
Councilmember Teitzel said he is looking forward to working with the Commission the rest of this year and
next. Chair Vogel thanked him.

Commissioner Preston noted that any house built 1972 or older is eligible for the Register. There is a lot more
low -hanging fruit than there used to be, and it is growing each year. He recommended focusing on marketing
the Register. Chair Vogel agreed said the need to first complete the calendar.
Ms. Szafran asked about changing the date for the next meeting since she has a conflict. There was consensus
to have a special meeting on November 9. Ms. Szafran announced that meetings going forward would be in -
person since remote meetings will be ending. She will notify the Commission about the location when it has
been determined.
