THERE IS AN EXISTING GLULAM BEAM THAT FRAMES THE EDGE OF A SECOND FLOOR DECK & EXTENDS
BEYOND THE DECK ARCHITECTURALLY TO FORM AN EXTERIOR TRELLIS. THERE IS DRY ROT IN THE
TRELLIS PORTION OF THE BEAM, AND IT IS PROPOSED TO ADD A COLUMN AT THE EDGE OF THE DECK TO
PROVIDE VERTICAL SUPPORT FOR THE LOADED PORTION OF THE BEAM DOWN TO A NEW FOOTING
WITHIN THE EXISTING LANDSCAPING. THE DRY ROT PORTION OF THE BEAM WILL REMAIN IN PLACE
SINCE IT IS NON -LOAD BEARING AND THE CONTRACTOR WILL LOCATE THE SOURCE OF MOISTURE
PENETRATION AND MAKE SEAL THE BEAM FINISH ACCORDINGLY.
