The assumption was that the addition would tie into the existing footing drains. However there are no footing drains
present at the existing structure to tie into. The existing condition of the structure shows no signs of issues with
settling or groundwater. Given the absence of any footing drains, combined with the lack of grade change that would
allow for a practical path for a footing drain to daylight anywhere on site no footing drain will be required at the addition
nor do they need to be added to the existing structure.

project today and spoke with their contractor.
Their contractor said that there were no footing drains around the existing house so they did not install a section of
footing drains for the addition.
The architectural plans call out footing drains around the existing and added for the new addition.
Can you please confirm whether or not footing drains would be required for the addition?
