Project: Swedish Hospital
Contractor: DLR Group
Firestop in Category: Joints / Wall to Wall
Hourly Rating / T e: 2 Hour / F
Joint Type: Wall to Wall
Maximum Joint Width: 2 Inch
1st Wall Assembly: Gypsum Shaft Wall Assembly
2"d Wall Assembly: Gypsum Wallboard Assembly
Type of Movement: Dynamic
Special Conditions: Field condition similar to UL System WW-D-0045 with the inclusion of gypsum shaft wall and a
gypsum wallboard assembly that is capped with two layers of gypsum board at the end of the wall, creating a max 2
in. wide joint between gypsum boards cap and track/gyspum boards of gypsum shaft wall assembly. There is no void
between shaft liner and track assembly. Gypsum wallboard is deeper than gypsum shaft wall and extends past the
face of shaft liner side.
Application Details: To firestop this application, install in accordance with UL System WW-D-0045 with the following
modifications/clarifications:
1. Install min 4.0 pcf (64 kg/m3) mineral wool batt insulation installed in joint opening as a permanent
form full depth of the shaft wall assembly. Pieces of batt installed edge first into joint opening, parallel
with joint direction, such that batt sections are compressed min 50 percent in thickness and such that
the compressed batt sections are recessed min 1/2 in. from both surfaces of wall to accommodate the
required thickness of fill material.
2. Install min 1/2 in. depth of sealant into the joint on both sides of the shaft wall assembly. Sealant to be
flush with face of gypsum boards and shaft liner/track on both sides of the wall assembly.
Note: Gypsum Shaft Wall and Gypsum Wallboard assemblies must be 2-hour rated wall assemblies as
determined by an independent third -party testing and listing agency (such as UL, OPL/Intertek, FM Approvals,
etc.) or by the local Authority Having Jurisdiction.
3M Fire Barrier Material: FD 150+ Sealant

This Engineering Judgment (EJ) is based upon the sole and exclusive use of 3M brand Fire Protection Products as
described within. Modification of any of the parameters of this EJ, including, without limitation, the use of non-3M
brand Fire Protection Products, shall render this EJ null and void. This fire -resistive joint design is expected to achieve
the hourly rating indicated above. This engineering judgment is based on performance results obtained in testing with
independent laboratories and / or internal 3M fire tests, which have been tested in accordance to ASTM E 1966 (UL
2079).
