R403.1.1 PROGRAMMABLE THERMOSTAT. WHERE THE PRIMARY HEATING SYSTEM IS A

PROGRAMMABLE SETBACK PERIODS PER DAY. THIS THERMOSTAT SHALL INCLUDE THE
CAPABILITY TO SET BACK OR TEMPORARILY OPERATE THE SYSTEM TO MAINTAIN ZONE
TEMPERATURES DOWN TO 55°F (13°C) OR UP TO 85°F (29°C). THE THERMOSTAT SHALL
INITIALLY BE PROGRAMMED BY THE MANUFACTURER WITH A HEATING TEMPERATURE
SET POINT NO HIGHER THAN 70°F (21 °C) AND A COOLING TEMPERATURE SET POINT NO
LOWER THAN 78°F (26°C). THE THERMOSTAT AND/OR CONTROL SYSTEM SHALL HAVE
AN ADJUSTABLE DEADBAND OF NOT LESS THAN 10°F.
EXCEPTIONS:
1. SYSTEMS CONTROLLED BY AN OCCUPANT SENSOR THAT IS CAPABLE OF SHUTTING
THE SYSTEM OFF WHEN NO OCCUPANT IS SENSED FOR A PERIOD OF UP TO 30
MINUTES.
2. SYSTEMS CONTROLLED SOLELY BY A MANUALLY OPERATED TIMER CAPABLE OF
OPERATING THE SYSTEM FOR NO MORE THAN TWO HOURS.
R403.3.3 DUCT TESTING (MANDATORY).
DUCTS SHALL BE LEAK TESTED IN ACCORDANCE WITH WSU RS-33, USING THE MAXIMUM
DUCT LEAKAGE RATES SPECIFIED. EXCEPTION: THE TOTAL LEAKAGE TEST OR LEAKAGE
TO THE OUTDOORS IS NOT REQUIRED FOR DUCTS AND AIR HANDLERS LOCATED
ENTIRELY WITHIN THE BUILDING THERMAL ENVELOPE. FOR FORCED AIR DUCTS, A
MAXIMUM OF 10 LINEAR FEET OF RETURN DUCTS AND 5 LINEAR FEET OF SUPPLY
DUCTS MAY BE LOCATED OUTSIDE THE CONDITIONED SPACE. ALL METALLIC DUCTS
LOCATED OUTSIDE THE CONDITIONED SPACE MUST HAVE BOTH TRANSVERSE AND
LONGITUDINAL JOINTS SEALED WITH MASTIC. IF FLEX DUCTS ARE USED, THEY CANNOT
CONTAIN SPLICES. FLEX DUCT CONNECTIONS MUST BE MADE WITH NYLON STRAPS AND
INSTALLED USING A PLASTIC STRAPPING TENSIONING TOOL. DUCTS LOCATED IN CRAWL
SPACES DO NOT QUALIFY FOR THIS EXCEPTION. A WRITTEN REPORT OF THE RESULTS
SHALL BE SIGNED BY THE PARTY CONDUCTING THE TEST AND PROVIDED TO THE CODE
OFFICIAL.
R403.3.5 BUILDING CAVITIES (MANDATORY).
BUILDING FRAMING CAVITIES SHALL NOT BE USED AS DUCTS OR
PLENUMS. INSTALLATION OF DUCTS IN EXTERIOR WALLS, FLOORS OR CEILINGS SHALL
NOT DISPLACE REQUIRED ENVELOPE INSULATION.
EGRESS NOTES:
PER IRC R310.1 BASEMENTS, HABITABLE ATTICS AND EVERY SLEEPING ROOM
SHALL HAVE AT LEAST ONE OPERABLE EMERGENCY ESCAPE AND RESCUE OPENING.

DIMENSIONS REQUIRED BY THIS SECTION SHALL BE OBTAINED BY THE NORMAL
