This memo provides designer concurrence of artwork loads applied to the shade structure at the
Edmonds Playfield.
Overview
The shade structure at the Edmonds Playfield can support the vertical weight of the proposed
artwork (a hanging canoe weighing 300 Ibs). It is our understanding that the canoe is tucked up
within the curve of the roof; therefore, the canoe does not add any lateral load to the structure due
to wind. The lateral design is controlled by wind loading and so the added seismic mass to the
structure is negligible for the design.
Conclusions and Limitations
This memo is only addressing the ability of the shade structure to support the canoe and not the
attachment of the canoe to the shade structure or the canoe itself. KPFF did not perform or verify
calculations for the canoe design.
