Thank you for reaching out regarding the Big leaf maple tree west of your house at 18124 761h Ave W.
The area where the tree is located classified as a wetland within a stream buffer, a type of
environmentally critical area.
The removal of trees or vegetation within a critical area or critical area buffer is not an allowed activity
unless it involves the removal of invasive species or hazard trees pursuant to ECDC 23.40.220.C.8.
According to the photos and information provided, the Big leaf maple is declining and considered a
hazard tree — dropping large branches and leaning toward the house.
A hazard tree cutting is granted per ECDC 23.40.220.C.8.b with the following conditions:
1. This review only applies to the Big leaf maple tree identified in the photos and materials.
2. A minimum of two replacement trees must be planted in the general vicinity of the Big leaf maple.
Replacement trees must be species that are native and a minimum of one to two inches in
diameter at breast height (dbh) for deciduous trees and a minimum of six feet in height for
evergreen trees as measured from the top of the root ball.
The replacement trees must be installed within one year of the removal of the Big leaf maple.
Please provide photos of each of the planted replacement trees to verify installation and let us
know when to schedule a follow-up inspection.

Request to cut a hazardous Big Leaf Maple in our back yard that is 75%
dead, leaning towards our home.
We have had a Tree Specialist inspect this tree and confirm the tree is
dead and poses a threat to our safety. We also risk damage to our
property. Large dead branches have fallen from the tree this summer
caused by just the slightest amount of wind.
