RE: BLD2023-0003 DEVELOPMENT SERVICES
DEPARTMENT
550 Main St
Mural
The proposal is to install a mural of Native American Salish Variety on the roof of 550 Main Street
building. The final design is attached in this letter. The process was conducted by the AWE mural
commission of Edmonds and carefully and thoughtfully designed to assimilate into the Downtown core
and creative district of Edmonds. The Artist Paige Pettibon was selected by AWE. The artist expects the
mural to be completed around February 15t" 2023, my hope is to have Wilcox Construction install the
panels on the designated roof sometime late February early March 2023 (see picture below).
The design will be created with 6 aluminum panels, installed side by side on the roof pop-up above the
lower Commons building. The panels consist of 5 - 5' x 10', 1 - 5 x 9.5"' with the end result having each
piece mounted right next to each other. The panels will be sanded lightly and then painted with a base
coat for aluminum and the mural will be done with Nova acrylic paints. Nova Paint was selected as it is
very fade Resistant and resilient to outdoor elements and used commonly for outdoor murals. The
panels will be professionally installed by the onsite contractor Wilcox Construction with stainless steel
screws every 8 inches in predrilled holes on the panels.
The Mural includes a 4-year warranty by the artist see AWE contract. The location of the mural has
roof top access to properly maintain mural and perform cleaning or touch ups over time if needed.
spoke to the artist she will seal the panels to help prevent fading.
I don't expect much maintenance moving forward as the panels will be permanently installed. I have
installed pigeon spikes to protect the mural from birds. Regarding liability the mural will be a permanent
attached element to the 550 building so property and its ownership will fall under my liability and be
part of the structure.
Let me know if you have any additional questions?
