RE: Walk -In Cooler and Associated Live Loads
As you requested, we evaluated the existing floor for a walk-in cooler and the associated allowable live load for the
cooler contents. The existing building is located at 610 51" Avenue South, Suite B. We have been provided existing
building drawings with as-bult information about the building structure at the walk-in cooler location.
Our assessment is based upon the following:
• The existing floor structure consists of 8" diameter log purlins at 24" on center with 2x6 T&G decking over. Log
purlins are assumed to be Western Hemlock.
• Log beams are 12" diameter logs supported by 10" diameter posts. Log beams and posts are assumed to be
Western Hemlock.
• The new walk-in cooler has plan dimensions of 7'-10" x 9'-9" and weighs approximately 20 psf equally
distributed on the existing floor.
• The positioning of the walk-in cooler is assumed to be as shown in the attached architectural drawing A2.1a.
Based upon our assessment of the floor it is our professional opinion that the floor structure can support the proposed
deadloads (including new walk-in cooler deadload) along with a live load of 50 psf. The location of the proposed walk-in
cooler is shown on sheet A2.1a (enclosed). We are assuming that the contents for the walk-in cooler will be equally
distributed over the cooler floor.
Further it is our recommendation that the live load restriction of 50 psf should be conspicuously displayed at the walk-in
cooler and at associated spaces adjacent to the walk-in cooler. It is important that the proposed loading limitations are
strictly adhered to. A2.1a provides information related to the physical posting of this live load limitation.
