The new units will be mounted to the existing curbs and no new openings in the roof structure are expected. DESCRIPTION OF STRUCTURE The purpose of this analysis is to evaluate the weights on the roof of the new equipment. The structure, designed in 1989, has concrete columns and walls at the first floor supporting a concrete pan joist slab at the second floor. Above this are wood shear walls, posts, and a wood framed roof. The roof is framed with 20" deep engineered joist at 24"oc spanning 30 feet with plywood sheathing. ANALYSIS The roof structure was checked for the weight of the mechanical units along with code level snow load. Even though the loads on the joists with the new units are no more than 5% greater than the existing total loads, a strength check was performed to be sure the framing was acceptable without modifications. The existing joists have the capacity to support the mechanical units. Lateral seismic and wind forces on the units were checked to determine the anchorage of the new units to the existing steel curbs or curb extenders. RESULTS The new units shall all be anchored with a minimum of (8) #10 sheet metal screws for each unit Use the same screw size and spacing for curb adapters to existing curbs. See attached calculations. **Note: Mechanical Unit Weights were provided by Client. Lund Opsahl takes no responsibility if incorrect unit weights were provided Summary The framing supporting the above mentioned units were checked for the additional weight added to the roof structure to verify demand on the existing framing does not exceed 5% per IBC Chapter 34. The above mentioned mechanical units were reviewed for overturning forces from wind and seismic loading. Calculations verifying client's proposed anchorage are included. The proposed anchorage of the units is acceptable. Disclaimer Hazard loads are interpolated from data provided in ASCE 7 and rounded up to the nearest whole integer. Per ASCE 7, islands and coastal areas outside the last contour should use the last wind speed contour of the coastal area — in some cases, this website will extrapolate past the last wind speed contour and therefore, provide a wind speed that is slightly higher. NOTE: For queries near wind-borne debris region boundaries, the resulting determination is sensitive to rounding which may affect whether or not it is considered to be within a wind-borne debris region. Mountainous terrain, gorges, ocean promontories, and special wind regions shall be examined for unusual wind conditions.
