LETTER TO APPLICANTFrom: Sent: To: Cc: Subject: Follow Up Flag: Flag Status: Categories: Hello Teages, Carter, Eric Friday, May 14, 2021 8:15 AM waltesebey@gmail.com Thompson, Milton; Bjorback, Leif; Wayland, Christina BLD 2020-0124 Follow up Flagged Red Category Thank you for taking the time to meet with myself and Milton yesterday. As discussed, we see a couple different directions that your project can take at this particular time. Option #1 Continue with the current approved plans: If you continue with the city approved plans, you shall construct the project exactly how the plans detail. For example the current deck footing detail indicate a 6x6 post is to be embedded in concrete 6' below grade, the use of the other footing detail does not apply. If you would like to change the design but utilize the current engineer, we will need design detail(s), possibly new plans, and a letter describing the changes. Depending on the changes we may need you to submit for a formal plan revision, please feel free to reach out if you do decide to change any details with the Engineer's approval. Option #2 Contact another Washington State licensed Engineer: As you mentioned, you are not happy with the current approved designs. You are welcome to have the plans redesigned. If you do decide to hire another Engineer, we will need you to submit for a plan revision once the designs are complete, so we can review the design for compliance. Along with the revision, we also need a letter stating the termination of current engineer from the project. This option may be easier, in the sense you can work with the designer to create designs that may work better for you. At this current time we cannot approve the footings that have been poured as they do not match the plans and were poured prior to inspection. If you intend to utilize the footings that have been poured, please provide a letter from the designing engineer verifying compliance with the plans. Please remember as you go along through your project the job of the building inspector is verify compliance with the plans and applicable codes prior to you trying to cover it up. For example, do not pour any concrete footings, walls, or isolated piers until you have written confirmation because the inspector will need to verify rebar installation, clearances prior to placing concrete, unfortunately we do have X ray vision Q. When in doubt, please ask! If you have any further questions or concerns please feel free to reach out to myself or Milton. Have a great weekend!
