RE: Sunrise Assisted Living Center-- 734 Edmonds Way
Waiver request- Maximum driveway slope.
Dear Mr. Chrisman:
December 18, 2002
LSA No. 4328
This letter is a request for a waiver to the City's maximum driveway slope restrictions. Sunrise
Assisted Living is proposing to construct a retirement center at the corner of Edmonds Way and
102"° Place West in the City of Edmonds. Driveway access to the center will be provided from
both Edmonds Wav and 102"' Place West. Due to the existing t
existing road grade of 102"' Place West it will
standard driveway slope of 14%
opography on -site and the
be necessary to supersede the City`s minimum
The entry off of 102nd Place West will access the proposed main entrance and the underground
parking garage of the center. The existing road grade of 102nd Piace West at the proposed
access location ranges between 16% and 18%. Thus, to reasonablely install a driveway that
matches the existing road grades of 102"' Place West and access the site it is necessary to have
slopes greater than 14%. A majority of the driveway section that extends to the underground
parking garage will be covered. The covered portion will be protected from the possible inclement
conditions (rain, snow and ice). If the access point to 102nd Place was to encounter adverse
conditions, the center's main entrance would still have access to Edmonds Way.
Therefore, on behalf of our client, we are requesting a waiver to authorize a maximum driveway
slope up to 18%, by City Code 18.80.060 (D). A proposed driveway of 18%will have no adverse
impact to public health, safety and/or general welfare.
Thank you for taking the time to review
