1. Land acknowledgement: Katy
2. Approve/Amend Minutes: Michele motioned to approve February minutes w/no changes, Colin
seconded; approved unanimously.
3. Approve/Amend Agenda: Michele motioned to approve agenda; Colin seconded; approved
unanimously
New Business:
4. Welcome new commissioner: Kiwa Tashiro. Grad student at the UW in International Studies.
Was a report and photograph in Nagoy for six years. Commissioners introduced themselves
Continued Business:
5. 2024 Museum Market
o 7/13/2024 subcommittee; Colin, Yuri, and Karyn —focus on commissioner
recruitment
0 9/21/2024 subcommittee; lyoko, Katy, and Anne — focus on 2025 student trip
recruitment
o Create: photo boards/photo books
o Michele and Samantha are flexible and can help either day
6. 2024 student exchange
o Currently have six students
o Anne reaching out to church friend
o Orientation dates are tentatively scheduled and will be provided at April
meeting. All commissioners are welcome to attend these meetings.
o Interviews planned for 3/27/24
o Gift bag discussion:
■ We need "welcome gift bags" for the Hekinan delegation — 8 total.
Samantha provided Amazon swag. If you have items you would like to
donate, please bring them in.
■ Edmonds delegates will put together their own "thank you gift bags" to
give to volunteers in Hekinan. They will work on this at one or more of
their orientation meetings.
o Itinerary for Hekinan visit
■ Art project day: Karyn will reach out to Julie Perriene about a clay project
we can do with the Japanese students. Katy suggested birds.
■ Dinner w/cultural presentations/activities will take place on Friday,
8/23/24 in the Brackett Room. All commissioners are encouraged to
attend.
■ We will need to have 1-2 commissioners sign-up to lead the group on
weekdays during their visit.
o Japanese delegation
■ Seven students, one from Vietnam and one from Brazil.
o Travel arrangements
■ lyoko working with travel agent. Will need Edmonds delegation member
information once we have it. Current cost is $2200-$2300 pp.
■ Due to costs, fundraising was discussed to cover the cost of our second
chaperone. Look at sponsorships, or maybe go fund me campaign.
Announcements:
7. New commission candidate Karen Reid is interviewing with Mayor Rosen on 4/3/2024
and with Council on 4/16/24 at 6:10 pm. If you are available to attend, please do.
8. Colin asked about meeting w/Mayor Rosen. Carolyn reported that Mayor is interested in
attending at least one meeting of all boards and commissions. She will see when he's
available to attend.
9. Samantha asked about collaborating with the Youth Commission. Carolyn will look into
this.
