2024-04-24 Youth Commission MinutesMeeting Minutes Edmonds Youth Commission Frances Anderson Center Room123 Wednesday, April 24th, 2024 6:OOPM-7:30PM 6:00 P.M. β€” Call to Order and Land Acknowledgement: "We acknowledge the original inhabitants of this place, the Sdohobsh (Snohomish) people and their successors the Tulalip Tribes, who since time immemorial have hunted, fished, gathered, and taken care of these lands. We respect their sovereignty, their right to self-determination, and we honor their sacred spiritual connection with the land and water." - City Council Land Acknowledgment Lydia read the land acknowledgment. 1. Roll Call & Absences (1 minute) Mara, Lucy C., Cassidy, and Vivian, absent 2. Approval of Agenda & Meeting Minutes (2 minutes) Sophia moved to approve minutes and agenda. Seconded by Charlie. Approved unanimously. 3. Public Comment (3 minutes per speaker) No members of the public. 4. COMP Plan Review (30 minutes) 20 year -long policy document for city planning -informs zoning and development regulations along with budget priorities. Periodic update every ten years (last update 2015). Edmonds is projected to grow by 13,000 people over the next 20 years. Expressed openness to collaborate with the Youth Commission on engaging the youth population and developing the comprehensive plan. 5. Earth Day Debrief (10 minutes) Marina Beach had 2 volunteers. Bracketts had β€”10 volunteers. Great weather this year. There was not much trash on the beaches, so Casey suggested a beach cleanup during the busy season. 6. Ivy Pull Planning (20 minutes) Youth commissioners will arrive at 9:30 to Pineridge Park. Commissioners will send the Ivy Pull Flyer to IB coordinators, honors society leaders, and post it on social media. Michelle will share the event during city council final comments. Instagram Reel about Ivy Pull will be made with whole commission at next meeting. Commissioners will bring EYC sweatshirts. 7. End of the Year Presentation Work (20 minutes) Charlie created a new version of last year's version to create a new version. Charlie filled in information such as this year's seniors, goals, and mission statement. 8. Final Comments (4 minutes) Casey's position will be ended June 30t'. Youth commission will continue. Respect the speaker β€”don't talk over people and create a safe and comfortable environment where people can speak.
