Product Description
Model RFC30, RFC43 and RFC49 Concealed Residen-
tial Sprinklers are fast response residential fusible solder
link automatic sprinklers. Residential sprinklers differ
from standard sprinklers primarily in their response time
and water distribution patterns.
Model RFC30, RFC43 and RFC49 sprinklers discharge
water in a hemispherical pattern below the sprinkler de-
flector. Residential distribution patterns are higher and
generally contain a finer droplet size than standard sprin-
kler patterns.
The combination of speed of operation and high dis-
charge pattern required for residential sprinklers has
demonstrated, in fire testing, an ability for controlling
residential fires, and thereby providing significant evacu-
ation time for occupants.
The RFC30, RFC43 and RFC49 Sprinklers provide the
best form of fire protection by combining an attractive ap-
pearance and 1/2" (13mm) of cover adjustment for ease
of installation. The small diameter cover plate is easily

cealing the most dependable fire protection available, an

The RFC30, RFC43 and RFC49 are UL Listed Residen-
tial Sprinklers to be installed in the residential portions
of any occupancy in accordance with NFPA 13, 13R, &
13D.
The RFC30, RFC43 and RFC49 can reduce the need
for precise cutting of drop nipples. The threaded cover
plate assembly can be adjusted without tools to fit ac-
curately against the ceiling. The fire protection system
need not be shut down to adjust or remove the cover
plate assembly.

Application and Installation
The RFC30, RFC43 and RFC49, for residential instal-
lations, use a 165'F (74'C) fusible solder link in a tun-
ing fork style sprinkler frame with a drop -down deflector.
This assembly is recessed into the ceiling and concealed
by a flat cover plate. The cover plate is attached to the
skirt, using 135OF (570C) ordinary temperature classifica-
tion solder. When the ceiling temperature rises, the solder
holding the cover plate releases the cover allowing the
deflector to drop into position and exposing the sprinkler
inside to ceiling temperature. The subsequent operation
of the solder link opens the waterway and causes the de-
flector to drop into position to distribute the discharging
water in a hemispherical pattern below the sprinkler de-
flector. Any adjustment of thread engagement between
the cover plate and cup will assure that the drop -down
deflector is properly located below the ceiling. The resi-
dential distribution pattern contains a finer droplet size
than a standard sprinkler, and the pattern produces sig-
nificantly higher wall wetting.
After a 25/a inch diameter hole is cut in the ceiling, the
sprinkler is to be installed with the Model FC Wrench.
When installing a sprinkler, the wrench is first positioned
into the sprinkler/cup assembly and around the hexago-
nal body of the sprinkler frame. The Wrench must bottom
out against the cup in order to ensure proper, safe instal-
lation. The sprinkler is then tightened into the pipe fitting.
When inserting or removing the wrench from the sprin-
kler/cup assembly, care should be taken to prevent dam-
age to the sprinkler. DO NOT WRENCH ON ANY OTHER
PART OF THE SPRINKLER/CUP ASSEMBLY, MODEL
RFC30, RFC43 AND RFC49 CONCEALED SPRINKLERS
MUST BE INSTALLED ONLY WITH 135"F RATED COV-
ERS.
Note: A leak tight 1/2" NPT (R1/2) sprinkler joint can be ob-
tained with a torque of 8-18 ft-lbs (10,8 - 24,4 N-m). Do not
tighten sprinklers over maximum recommended torque. It
may cause leakage or impairment of the sprinklers.
Cover assemblies provide up to 1/2" (13mm) of adjust-
ment. Turn the cover clockwise until the flange is in con-
tact with the ceiling. For the push-on/thread-off option,
the cover assembly is pushed onto the cup and final ad-
justment is made by turning the cover clockwise until the
skirt flange makes full contact with the ceiling. Cover re-
moval requires turning in the counter -clockwise direction.
In ceilings that have a plenum space above the
sprinkler, the plenum space may have neutral or neg-
ative pressurization but must not be positively pres-
surized. Inspect all sprinklers after installation to en-
sure that the gap between the cover plate and ceiling
and the 4 slots in the cup are all open and free from
any air flow impediment.

Maintenance
Model RFC30, RFC43 and RFC49 Concealed Sprin-
klers should be inspected and the sprinkler system
maintained in accordance with NFPA 25. Do not clean
sprinklers with soap and water, ammonia or any other
cleaning fluids. Remove dust by using a soft brush or
gentle vacuuming. Remove any sprinkler cover plate as-
sembly which has been painted (other than factory ap-
plied) or damaged in any way. A stock of spare sprin-
klers should be maintained to allow quick replacement
of damaged or operated sprinklers. Prior to installation,
sprinklers should be maintained in the original cartons
and packaging until used to minimize the potential for
damage to sprinklers that would cause improper opera-
tion or non -operation.

Product Description
The Reliable Model G5-80, G5-56, G5-42 and G5-28 uses
a proven quick response fusible element in a standard style
sprinkler frame with a drop -down deflector. This assembly is
recessed into the ceiling and concealed by a flat cover plate
assembly The threaded engagement provides 3/4" (19mm) of
cover adjustment. The flat cover plate is attached to the skirt
using either 135OF (57'C) or 1650F (741C) ordinary tempera-
ture classification solder.
When the ceiling temperature rises, the solder holding the
flat cover plate melts, the flat cover plate released thus expos-
ing the sprinkler inside to the rising ambient temperature.
The subsequent fusing of the element opens the waterway
and causes the deflector to distribute the water. Any secure
engagement between the cover plate and cup will assure that
the drop -down deflector is properly located below the ceiling.

Installation
Do not install the G5-80, G5-56, G5-42 and G5-28 in ceilings
which have positive pressure in the space above.
Cut a 25/8" inch (67mm) diameter hole is cut in the ceiling, the
sprinkler is easily installed with the Model FC Wrench. The
wrench has a socket drive which is inserted into the body of
the sprinkler When installing a sprinkler the wrench is first
positioned into the sprinkler/cup assembly until the wrench
socket engages the body of the sprinkler, The sprinkler is
then tightened into the pipe fitting. When inserting or remov-
ing the wrench from the sprinkler/cup assembly, care should
be taken to prevent damage to the sprinkler. DO NOT
WRENCH ON ANY OTHER PART OF THE SPRINKLER/
CUP ASSEMBLY. Install the cover plate by hand turning the
cover in the clockwise direction until it is tight against the ceil-
ing,
A protective cap is provided to protect the drop -down sprinkler
deflector from damage which could occur during construction
before the cover plate is installed, The cap is factory installed
inside the sprinkler cup. Remove cap to install sprinkler, then re-
install cap until the cover plate is installed.
Maintenance
The Model G5-80, G5-56, G5-42 and (35-28 should be in-
spected and the sprinkler system maintained in accordance
with NFPA 25. Do not clean sprinklers with soap and water, am-
monia or any other cleaning fluids. Remove any sprinkler that
has been painted (other than factory applied) or damaged in
any way. Concealed sprinklers cover plates can not be painted
in the field, after installation or have any other coating applied
other than the factory finish. A stock of spare sprinklers should
be maintained to allow quick replacement of damaged or oper-
ated sprinklers. Prior to installation, sprinklers should be main-
tained in the original cartons and packaging to minimize the
potential for damage to sprinklers that would cause improper
operation or non -operation.

Products Description
The Model DH56 are quick response extended cover-
age sidewall dry sprinklers for use in light hazard applica-
tions. The Model DH56 dry sprinkler with SWC cover plate
is a concealed sprinkler that uses Reliable's push on/thread
off sidewall cover. This sprinkler has the cup factory mounted
and is shipped with a bulb protector that protects the 3mm
frangible glass bulb during shipping and post installation fin-
ishing operations. The DH56 can be combined in the field
with the FP Escutcheon to make a recessed dry sprinkler

DH56 HSW/HB (See Fig. 5)
DH56 HSW FP Recessed (See Fig. 6)
DH56 HSW Concealed
with SWC coverplate (See Fig. 7)
The SWC cover plate and FP recessed escutcheons have
112" adjustment. The SWC cover plate is attached with 135
& 165 degree solder. In the event of a fire the rising ambient
temperature melts the solder and the cover plate is ejected
away by springs exposing the 3mm frangible glass bulb.
The use of a 3mm bulb allows quick response which enables
the sprinkler to apply water to a fire sooner than standard
response sprinklers of the same temperature rating.
Model DH56 dry sprinklers are intended for use in dry
and preaction systems to protect areas subjected to freez-
ing temperatures and unheated portions inside and outside
buildings. See Fig. 1 for guidelines on using dry sprinklers in
wet systems.

Environments wherein dry sprinklers are employed can
be corrosive. For this reason, Model DH56 dry sprinklers
have a special wax fillet placed in the gap between the
cup that supports the bulb and the wrenching boss. This
wax will not interfere with the operation of the sprinkler, and
it prevents contaminants from entering the internal portion
of the drop nipple. The wax must not be removed.
Application
The Model DH56 is a horizontal sidewall dry sprinkler
intended for installation in light hazard occupancies in ac-
cordance with NFPA 13. These sprinklers are designed to
provide fire protection in long and narrow spaces such as
hallways, corridors, decks and rooms up to 28 feet (8,5m)
wide and 10 feet (3m) long. They are rated for 250 psi (17,2
bar) and can be mounted between 4 and 12 inches (102
and 305mm) down from the ceiling.
General Installation Instructions
Model DH56 dry sprinklers must be installed only in stan-
dard (ANSI B 16.3 class 150 and ANSI B 16.4 class 125)
pipe tees in the horizontal position, even at branch line ends.
They should not be installed into elbows or pipe couplings
located on drop nipples to the sprinklers. For these and
other fittings including CPVC, the dry sprinkler should be
installed into a fitting to allow protrusion into the fitting in ac-
cordance with the diagrams. The "A" dimension of the dry
sprinkler, which extends into a freezing zone from wet pipe
systems, should be selected to provide, as a minimum, the
specified lengths in inches shown in Fig. 1.
Caution:
Do not install Model DH56 HSW Dry sprinklers into CPVC
adapter fittings or tees that have an internal obstruction.
This will damage the sprinkler and /or the fitting. Refer to
Fig. 8
DH56 HSW
To install the DH56 HSW dry sprinkler cut a 21/8" diameter
hole in the wall as shown in Fig. 4. Use the Model F3 instal-
lation wrench (see Fig. 3) on the square boss to tighten the
sprinkler until it is secured in the sprinkler fitting'. Apply a
Teflon* based sealant to the sprinkler threads before install-
ing in the sprinkler. Installation is completed by removing
the orange glass bulb -protector and assembling the slip-on
escutcheon to the sprinkler's can.
DH56 HSW/HB
To install the DH56 HSW/HB dry sprinkler cut a 2112" di-
ameter hole in the wall as shown in Fig. 5. Use the Model
F3 installation wrench (see Fig. 3) on the square boss to
tighten the sprinkler until it is secured in the sprinkler fitting'.
Apply a Teflon* based sealant to the sprinkler threads be-
fore installing in the sprinkler. Installation is completed by
removing the orange glass bulb -protector and assembling
the slip-on escutcheon to the sprinkler's can.
DH56 HSW Recessed with FP Escutcheon
To install the DH56 HSW dry sprinkler with the FP Escutch-
eon as a recessed sprinkler cut a 25/8" diameter hole in the
wall as shown in Fig. 6. Temporarily remove the plastic pro-
tective cap, and then use the, Model XL02 wrench' (see
Fig. 2) to tighten the sprinkler until it is secured in the sprin-
kler fitting. Note: The Model XL02 wrench has a notch in it
to accommodate the deflector top. This wrench can only
be inserted one way. Care must be taken not to damage
the deflector during tightening. Apply a Teflon* based seal-
ant to the sprinkler threads before installing in the sprinkler,
It is recommended that the sprinkler be protected during
plastering and painting operations by reinstalling the plastic
protective cap. Installation is completed by removing the
protective cap and inserting the push -on escutcheon. Turn
clockwise to adjust the escutcheon against the wall.
DH56 HSW Concealed with SWC Cover Plate
To install the DH56 HSW dry sprinkler with the SWC cover -
plate as a concealed sprinkler, cut a 21/8" diameter hole into
the wall as shown in Fig. 7. Temporarily remove the plastic
protective cap, and then use the Model XL02 wrench' (see
Fig. 2) to tighten the sprinkler until it is secured in the sprin-
kler fitting. Note: The Model XL02 wrench has a notch in it
to accommodate the deflector top. This wrench can only
be inserted one way. Care must be taken not to damage
the deflector during tightening. Apply a Teflon* based seal-
ant to the sprinkler threads before installing in the sprinkler.
It is recommended that the sprinkler be protected during
plastering and painting operations by reinstalling the plastic
protective cap. Installation is completed by removing the
protective cap and inserting the coverplate. Coverplate as-
semblies provide 1/2" (13mm) of adjustment, Final adjust-
ment is made by turning the coverplate clockwise until the
skirt flange makes full contact with the wall surface. Cover
removal requires turning in the counter -clockwise direction.
Concealed coverplate assemblies are listed only for use
with specific sprinklers. The use of any other concealed wall
sprinkler or the use of the SWC coverplate on any sprinkler
with which it is not specifically listed will void all guarantees,
warranties, listings and approvals.
Note: DH56 and DH56 Recessed Sprinklers have orange
bulb protectors to minimize bulb damage during shipping,
handling, and installation. REMOVE THIS PROTECTION AT
THE TIME THE SPRINKLER SYSTEM IS PLACED IN SER-
VICE FOR FIRE PROTECTION. Removal of the protectors
before this time may leave the bulb vulnerable to damage.
RASCO wrenches are designed to install sprinklers when
covers are in place. REMOVE PROTECTORS BY UNDO-
ING THE CLASP BY HAND. DO NOT USE TOOLS TO RE-
MOVE THE PROTECTORS.
Installation Wrenches:
Throughout this technical bulletin, Reliable has specified specific installation wrenches for use on each version of our sprinklers. A pipe wrench may also
be used to install a dry sprinkler provided that it only interfaces with the steel outer tube of the assembly (Item #8 on fig 10). Keep On mind that a pipe
wrench will incomorate a larae amount of torque nto the f nal assembly This toLque will have to be matched or exceeded upon the sprinkler's removal at
a later date,

Installation Wrenches:
Throughout this technical bulletin, Reliable has specified specific installation wrenches for use on each version of our sprinklers, A pipe wrench may also
be used to install a dry sprinkler provided that it only interferes with the steel outer tube of the assembly (item #8 on fig 16). Keep in mind that a pipe wrench
will incorporate a large amount of torque into the final assembly. This torque will have to be matched or exceeded upon the sprinkler removal at a later date.

General Information
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR INSTALLERS AND USERS:
Plastic piping systems should be ENGINEERED, INSTALLED and OPERATED in accordance with ESTABLISHED DESIGN AND ENGINEERING STANDARDS
AND PROCEDURES for plastic piping systems. Suitability for the intended service application should be determined by the installer and/or user prior to
installation of a plastic piping system. All Installation and maintenance personnel should be trained in the proper handling and installation requirements and
precautions of plastic piping systems, PRIOR TO ASSEMBLY, all piping system components should be inspected for damage or irregularities. Mating
components should be checked to assure that tolerances and engagements are compatible. Do not use any components that appear irregular or do
not fit properly. Contact the appropriate manufacturer of the component product in question to determine usability. Consult all applicable codes and
regulations for compliance prior to installation.
Installation must be made in accordance vvith SpearsO Manufacturing Company
FllameGuar& CPVC Fire Sprinkler Piping Products Installation Instructions - FG-3
NOTE — Individual or group instruction in correct solvent welding procedures is available by contacting your local distributor or your servicing Spearso Regional
Distribution Center.
SOLVENT CEMENT CONNECTIONS — SpearsO Manufacturing Company recommends the use of Speare FS-5 One Step solvent cement for joining Spearso
products. Use of solvent cementing products not approved for CPVC fire sprinkler systems, or failure to follow installation instructions will automatically void
the warranty.
THREADED CONNECTION — SpearsO Manufacturing Company recommends the use of SpeaWl BLUE 75Tm Thread Sealant. This product has been tested
by Spears"and the sealant manufacturer for compatibility with the SpearsO CPVC fire sprinkler products. Consult the sprinkler head manufacturer before using
this product. WARNING: OTHER PIPE JOINT COMPOUNDS OR PASTES MAY CONTAIN SUBSTANCES THAT COULD CAUSE STRESS CRACKING IN
THE CPVC OR OTHER FITTING COMPONENTS. Care must be taken to avoid over torquing - generally 1 to 2 turns beyond finger tight is all that is required
to make up a threaded connection. Factory testing has indicated 10-25 ft. lbs. of torque is adequate to obtain a leak free seal.
GASKET SEALED THREAD CONNECTIONS — This type of connection can only be made with Speare TorqueSafe TM style Gasket Sealed Female Sprinkler
Adapters. DO NOT USE ANY TYPE OF THREAD SEALANT WHEN INSTALLING THIS TYPE OF ADAPTER, Tape or paste may impair proper sealing and
function. Testing has shown that hand tight until snug is all that is needed to seal this special connection.

General
TheModcIRBVS is designed to monitor the fully open position of a ball Valve
installed in a sprinkler system. The unit will fit oil most ball valves installed on
back-flow-preventers and alarm trim lines of dry, alarm, and deluge sprinkler
valves. The switch operates if the ball valve handle is moved from the open
position. However. the switch does not track- the position of the handle or ball.
When the ball valve handle is in the open position, a spring -loaded switch button
"I contact the valve handle. When the handle is moved from the open position,
this switch button extends to the tripped position, and die RBVS contacts change
state, thereby opening or closing a circuit. A cover tamper switch is avai lable and
is activated by the removal of the RBVS housing cover. If an attempt is made
to remove the RBVS by the removal of the mounting brackets, the unit wil I be
set into the tripped mode by this action.
The RBVS can be mounted to the hex portion of the ball valve or back-flow-
preventeror to the adjoining pipe via two clamps. TheRBVS is shippedwith two
sets of mounting clamps to accommodate various pipe and valve sizes, refer to
Table 1. An "U shaped and offset bracket for mounting the switch enclosure kind
an extension bracket add to the mounting flexibUity of the RBVS. See "'lypical
Mounting Diagrunt" and "Installation and Operation" on following page.
'resting
The RBVS and its associated protective monitoring system should be tested
in accordance with applicable NFPA codes and standards and/or the authority
havin.-jurisdiction (manufacturer recontmends quarterly or more ftcquently).
