See Engineering review comment to add note to civil plans:
'Orange protective barrier fencing shall be placed at the drip line
of trees to remain and around areas proposed for low impact
development, that are located near any land disturbance areas
to protect the area from compaction.'
I was asked to supply a Tree Retention and Protection Plan in anticipation of a building permit at the
above address. I visited the site on 6.21.2022.
Observations: This is a sloped, waterfront lot with an existing SFR on site. There are 5 significant trees
on site. Please see site plan for exact locations, estimated canopies and placement of tree protection
measures.

Condition of Retained trees: Trees #144 are across the access road, abut the interurban trail and are
beneath powerlines. All trees have been coppiced in the past and these trees are stump sprouted and
have been repeatedly pruned to 15' or less. These trees are at the top of the property and atop a 4'
retaining wall. These trees are in poor condition.
Trees #5 and #6 are on the south property line. 50% of the roots are on the neighbor's property. There is
a gravel road that is the access to the lake and lower property.
Tree Protection Plan: All trees will be retained.
#1-#4 Because of their location, up on top of the retaining wall, and their height, no tree protection
measures should be required here. Any limits of disturbance on this project are well outside the canopy
of these trees.
Trees #5 46. Currently, these trees are healthy. There is a gravel road that is at the foot of these trees.
This road has been here a long time and the trees have grown to adjust to the compacted soil. This is the
only access to the lower portion of the property. Because of a retaining wall, the gravel access road
cannot be moved. Because of its required use, TPZ fencing is moot here.
All firewood and materials which are stacked by the fence, and between the two trees should be
removed. This is to allow the percolation and decompaction of the soils in this area.
The access road was just re -gravelled with 2" + gravel. I recommend that this fresh gravel be maintained
throughout the project, and that the use of this road by heavy equipment, be limited to the dry monthes
whenever possible. The gravel will help dissipate the weight of the equipment.
At the completion of the project, additional gravel should be removed, down to 2" and this road be
limited to the occasional use by heavy equipment. No equipment or materials should be stored within
the driplines of these trees.
I am available for continued consultation on these trees,
Regards,
