Kasko Konstruction Engineering did a site visit at the above location to
investigate a beam replacement over the first -floor front entry and to see if the
home made beam meets the requirements of the 2018 IBC code. Kasko
Konstruction reviewed some pictures and video during the process of the
construction and also reviewed the original Framing plan design drawings dated
in 1978 when the building was first constructed. After reviewing the load path it
was determined that this beam was not a load bearing beam and the floor and
roof joints ran parallel with the beam bearing on either side on existing glulam
beams and posts. The beam that was replaced because it was rotten on the
outside was non load bearing, and the homemade glulam beam will have way
more capacity than is required to resist code prescribed loads. Kasko
Konstruction recommends Approving the existing beam as installed.
