Project Scope-
• Purchase 5 new Neptune Suction Machines for Main OR.
• Install 2 docking stations in Soiled Utility room.
o 1 docking station will be purchased from Stryker and 1 new unit will be
relocated from Swedish Issaquah campus that is no longer needed.
Project Information-

SITUATION: Fluid management System at Edmonds OR to meet the states requirements for
smoke evacuation and fluid management
BACKGROUND: New State law requires smoke evacuation. Historically Swedish Edmonds
utilizes ConMed Buffalo filtration systems and this system will aid in maintaining this new
expectation.
ASSESSMENT: Handling suction containers is not considered best practice and place caregivers
at risk for a body fluid exposer. Stryker Neptune is a closed system for contaminated surgical
fluids where staff will be better protected.
RECOMMENDATION: Purchase 5 new Neptune suction machines and install 2 new docking
stations in Soiled utility room

Equipment location
• 5 Neptune Suction Machines will be kept in Main Surgery operating rooms and will be
moved between ORs as needed
• 2 docking stations will be installed in Soiled Utility Room WB021
Equipment Cleaning
• Post surgery Swedish Staff will connect Neptune to docking station in Soiled Utility room
to empty and clean the tank.
• Swedish Environmental Services (EVS) will clean and wipe down the exterior of the
equipment as part of their room turnover cleaning.
Equipment Training
• Stryker Rep will train Clinical Engineering and Surgery staff before machines are put in
service.
Equipment Maintenance
• Clinical Engineering will place asset tags on each unit and track PM schedule with other
medical equipment.
