Dear Mr. Rettenmier:
As requested, Earth Solutions NW, LLC (ESNW) has prepared this letter responding to the City
of Edmonds review comments. The comments pertinent to the geotechnical aspects of the
project are provided below, followed by our responses. ESNW prepared the referenced
geotechnical documents for the subject project.
Review Comment 3 — The plan review letter prepared by Earth Solutions, dated November 15,
2019, lists under reference documents, the civil plans dated 11/7/2019, prepared by Donna
Breske. There was no mention of the drainage report with this memo. Please provide
confirmation that the drainage report was also reviewed for compliance.
ESNW Response — As part of this response to comments, ESNW reviewed the referenced
drainage manual and found the geotechnical recommendations have been incorporated and
comply with the report.

Review Comment SW2-6 — It appears that the architectural plans show at least some degree of
footing/foundation/stem walls with subsurface elements and the Geotech recommended footing
drains such foundation types. Either:
(a) Provide footing drains and appropriate discharge locations, or;
(b) Explain in written response how the proposal meets the geotechnical recommendations to
provide footing drains, or;
(c) Provide geotechnical approval of the plans as proposed.
ESNW Response — As documented in the referenced geotechnical engineering study, relatively
clean coarse sand was predominant during the subsurface exploration. Because the native soils
are relatively well -draining, it is our opinion the elimination of footing drains is acceptable from a
geotechnical standpoint, provided footing excavation conditions are confirmed by ESNW during
construction.
Should you require additional information, or have questions, please call.
Sincerely,
