Subject: Structural modifications approval
Dear Mr. & Mrs. Pochincherla,
As requested by you, and your contractor, our office performed a review of the building structure
and confirmed the recent field modifications for the following conditions:
1- The Simpson HDU-11 holdowns were located inside the limit (width) of the window in
the main family room. The holdowns were connected to the same stud group as the
boundary element of the shear wall. The shear wall length and the tension/compression on
the holdowns were reviewed under this condition and determined to be acceptable as
constructed.
2- On shear walls where shear load exceeds 350 plf, a 3 X stud is required at plywood
abutting joints as indicated per shear wall schedule on sheet 51.1; However, using (2) 2 X
studs nailed together in (2) rows at 6-inches on center using 16d nails in lieu of a single 3
X stud is acceptable. This condition was verified by the contractor and is acceptable by
the Engineer of Record.
Please provide a copy of this letter to the City of Edmonds Building Inspector for their records
